2012 star changes high profile commitment

2012 star changes high profile commitment
November 18, 2011

She just found a better option. It happens with commitments, particularly when they come at such an early stage of a player’s career (a discussion for another day).

Solar SC striker Taylor Smith, the fourth-ranked player in our Top 100, was originally linked to Florida State but had a change of heart this year.

Smith decided instead that she’ll be attending UCLA in 2012. After taking one last look at her options, she found a better fit.

“It was a very tough decision and it was really stressful,” Smith said. “I just wanted to look around more and consider all my options. (UCLA) is such a welcoming and happy environment while still being competitive and that’s more than I could ask for.

“Nothing changed as far as FSU; it’s still an amazing school.”

Oh, the Seminoles will survive. Per usual, they have their share of intriguing commits. But this is more about what the Bruins gained than what Florida State lost.

Smith is a dynamic player who is expected to step in and be a factor right away. She comes from a great Texas club environment and possesses great athleticism and the ability to break down defenders.

It’s a nice score for UCLA.
