2013 star to graduate early, join ACC program

As if Wake Forest’s incoming class wasn’t strong enough, they even picked up a bonus.

Stellar 2013 graduate Collin Martin, our No. 8 ranked player in his class, is set to graduate from high school one year early and will bolster a freshman group that was already one of the finest in the country.

Martin, a midfielder for the DC United Reserve squad, is no stranger to playing up in age as he has done throughout his young career.

A young player with impressive international credentials, Martin has much experience with the U.S. Youth National Team program. He also trained last summer with German club TSG Hoffenheim and in 2008 with Manchester United.

“What an exciting surprise that he’s joining us a year early,” Wake Forest coach Jay Vidovich said in a release. “That speaks volumes about the young man. Once again, he fits into the mold of what it takes to have success at Wake Forest. He is ambitious and a good student, but the bottom line is his talent is obvious. He’s the youngest U20 kid on the national team and that speaks volumes of him being able to compete with older players.”

Martin joins an eye-popping cast of incoming players that includes Michael Gamble, Jalen Robinson and Andrew Harris.

Look out, ACC.
