The U.S. U17 Women’s National Team has come together in Sunrise, Fla., for its final training camp before head coach Kazbek Tambi chooses a 20-player roster for the 2010 CONCACAF U17 Women’s Championships that will qualify two teams to the 2010 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago.

Tambi has brought 20 players to Florida after coaching this age group through six events in 2009 and one so far this year.

The CONCACAF U17 Women’s Championships will be held in Costa Rica from March 10-20 and the USA will face Haiti, Cayman Islands and Costa Rica in the first round. The 16-game, 11-day tournament will be played at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

The group winners and second place finishers will cross-over to the all-important semifinals on March 18 with the two semifinal winners earning berths to the U17 Women’s World Cup. As the tournament is being held in the CONCACAF region, and T&T gets an automatic berth as host, the CONCACAF U17 Women’s Championship will send just two nations to the U-17 Women’s World Cup, instead of the three that qualified for the inaugural tournament two years ago in New Zealand.

Of the 24 players called up, 17 were born in 1993, the age cut-off year for this U17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held this September. Six were born in 1994 and one in 1995. Tambi’s squad will play several scrimmages while in Florida, including one against the University of Miami on Feb. 26.
