Canada announces U20 World Cup roster

The Canadian soccer association announced its roster for the upcoming Under 20 Women’s World Cup in August.

Included in the 21-player roster are 16 Division I college soccer players, including standouts like Emma Fletcher, Kailen Sheridan, Janine Beckie and Kadeisha Buchanan.

Buchanan, who has appeared for the full Canadian women’s national team, finished as the No. 2 ranked freshman in 2013. Wisconsin defender Kinley McNicoll is set to captain the side.

Three players: Victoria Pickett, Jordane Carvery and Vanessa Gregoire are set to begin their college careers this fall at the DI level.

The roster also includes some of the best recruits in North America, including Michigan commitment Sura Yekka, along with midfielder Jessie Fleming, who recently enjoyed a standout performance for Canada in the U17 Women’s World Cup earlier this year. 

Playing in Group A, Canada opens the competition in Toronto on August 5 against Ghana, continues with a game against Finland on August 8 before wrapping up the group stage in Montreal on August 12 against Korea DPR.
