ECNL Recap: A banner weekend

U14

A pair of showcase events at the youngest ECNL age group highlighted this weekend, as clubs traveled to both Greer, South Carolina and Kansas City, Kansas for the intraconference competitions. Teams played three games across two days to maximize the experience and make the trips worthwhile.

Maryland United FC enjoyed an unbeaten swing to the south. Goals from Madison Berry, Morgan Grauel, Alexcia Kraemer and Adrienne Vaughn led them to a 4-0 opening victory against Birmingham United SA. After a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon – with Nia Atkins scoring the only goal – Maryland wrapped the trip up with a second 4-0 win, this time over Gwinnett Soccer Association. Victoria Huxtable, Kraemer, Vaughn and Cecile McGarvey scored in the final win.

Another unbeaten side in Greer was CASL. The North Carolina side topped Gwinnett 3-1 in its opener, following that up with a 4-0 defeat of Birmingham, and finally a 0-0 draw against Concorde Fire. 

Michigan side Vardar also emerged from South Carolina unbeaten. Opening with a 2-0 defeat of Ohio Elite Soccer Academy, Vardar then topped OP Eagles 2-1, concluding its trip with a 2-2 draw against Penn Fusion SA.

Amelia Paternoster and Katelin Brito secured a win for PDA in its opener in Greer, before finishing the trip unbeaten thanks to a 0-0 draw against Concorde Fire and a 1-0 win over Ohio Elite Soccer Academy. Kara Borden grabbed the winner in PDA’s final game.

U15

Goals from Lia Kilgore, Sophie Lloyd and Rayana Plancarte paced MVLA to a 3-0 victory against the Utah Avalanche. The California side also claimed a 4-0 win on Snday, with Cameron Gordon, Julia Lodoen and Grace Lui finding the back of the net.

Internationals SC defender Brianne Caccavale and NC Fusion forward Montana Heinbach exchange goals as the two sides drew 1-1 on Saturday. Internationals lost 1-0 on Sunday against CASL, while NC Fusion fell 3-0 against Ohio Premier.

Midfielder Olivia Kane scored a pair of goals, accounting for Bethesda SC’s offensive output in a 2-1 defeat of local rivals Maryland United FC.

Forward Catarina Macario scored twice, while midfielder Taylor Kornieck chipped in a goal to help the San Diego Surf to a 3-0 victory against Eagles SC. The Surf played Eagles again on Sunday, and Macario had a hat trick plus assist en route to a 4-0 win. Yasmin Ahooja scored the other, while Kornieck setup two of the goals.

U16

A goal and an assist from Addison McCain accounted for the offense as FC Dallas topped local rivals Dallas Sting 2-1. Natalee Heiser accounted for FCD’s other goal, while Kayla McKeon grabbed the Sting’s consolation. 

After opening the weekend with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal FC, Slammers FC grabbed the full points in a second outing against Arsenal, a 2-0 win. Julia Bingham and Alyssa Rocha scored in the Sunday win.

Ohio Premier picked up the maximum six points against a pair of visiting teams from the Carolinas. Saturday, OP narrowly held off a dangerous CASL side, winning 1-0, while on Sunday, secured a 4-1 win against NC Fusion.

Kia Rankin nipped the winner as Maryland United FC secured a 1-0 win over Bethesda SC. 

U17

In a heated encounter with rivals Match Fit Academy, PDA avenged an earlier season defeat with a 3-1 win. Elizabeth Kinkler, Erin Trapp and Taylor Racioppi tallied for PDA, while Kayle Jennings scored Match Fit’s lone goal of the day. PDA made it three wins in four days, beating East Meadow SC 3-2 (two goals from Racioppi and Montana Sutton), and a 3-0 defeat of Albertson Fury, as Jenny Haskell, Paige Monaghan and Racioppi all scoring.

A winning tally from Emma Wangsness accounted for the only goal of the game as MVLA topped Utah Avalanche 1-0. Jayme Hughes and Shaelan Murison Brown also scored for MVLA in a 2-0 Sunday victory against FC Nova.

Four goals from Katie Glenn provided the foundation for Lonestar SC, which beat Texas Rush 6-1. McKenzie Oliver and Gabrielle Rodriguez also scored, while Marissa McMahand assisted on three goals. 

U18

Connecticut FC secured a pair of impressive results over the weekend, beating Match Fit Academy 2-0 on Saturday, and following that up with a 5-2 victory against Continental FC Delco.

Holding serve against the Carolina clubs, Internationals FC opened things up with a narrow 1-0 win against NC Fusion, also winning and keeping a clean sheet 2-0 over CASL. Emily Ogle scored and assisted in the win against CASL.           

Maintaining the winning ways for PDA, in three games over the weekend, the U18s outscored opponents 16-1 as the New Jersey powers continued to roll. After opening the weekend with a 2-0 defeat of Match Fit Academy, PDA topped East Meadow SC 4-0, and then beat Albertson 8-1 on Sunday. Colby Ciarrocca raised her season goal total to 19 with five across the last two games. With the three wins, PDA secured a record of 14-0-1 in all five age groups. 

World Class FC put together a two-win weekend, topping Albertson SC 3-2, and then beating East Meadow SC 2-0.
