PHOENIX (Jan. 8, 2015) — The 2015 Region IV US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Championships, began Jan. 8 at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix. The four-day tournament will feature teams of elite players in the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 age groups, from Region IV, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The four day tournament guarantees four matches for each team, and will ultimately determine who represents Region IV in the 2015 US Youth Soccer ODP Championships in the 1998 and 1999 age groups. California South has dominated as of late as the state swept last year's Region IV and National ODP Championships.

With programs in all 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations, US Youth Soccer ODP, the original Olympic development program, is available to any player. US Youth Soccer ODP is the only elite player development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, and the majority of current and past national and youth national team members, as alumni.

Match Highlights:

1998 Boys

Colorado 98 took control of Group A with a 4-1 victory over Idaho 98. Colorado got contributions from four different goal scorers in Jordan Lester, Elijah Stauffer, Thomas Adler and Armando Ocampo. Idaho’s lone goal came from Lewis Wright.

Cal South 98 and Utah 98 soared to the top of Group B as Cal South defeated Alaska 98 6-0 and Utah defeated Arizona 98 3-0. Gregory Natt scored a hat trick for Cal South to go along with goals from Billy Garton, George Sanchez and Juan Garcia. Utah got an own goal from Arizona in the 12^th minute and Tyler Gundred and Jacob Angeletti scored insurance goal to secure the 3-0 victory over Arizona.

1998 Girls

Things started to take shape in the 1998 Girls Standings with Cal South securing two victories along with Utah and Washington both getting one win. Utah defeated Idaho 4-0 thanks to goals from Alecia Robinson, Ellee Layton, Ireland Dunn and Haylee Cacciacarne. Cal South also recorded a shut out with a 5-0 victory over Arizona in their first game. Kennedy Smith and Antoinette Saldana both scored braces and Courtney Strode finished off the scoring in the first match. Cal South then defeated Colorado 98 3-1 to earn six points on the day. Washington defeated Nevada 98 5-2 after starting off strong when McKaley Goffard, Sophia Vivian and Namya Malik scored in the first 15 minutes. Nevada would not go away however as Taylor Kornieck and Macee Barlow brought Nevada to within one, but it was as close as they would get as it was Goffard and Vivian who each added another goal in the final minutes to give Washington the 5-2 victory.

1999 Boys

Colorado 99 stands alone at the top of Group A after winning their only game 3-1 against Oregon 99. Jesus Arredondo scored in the sixth minute and Rhys De Sota added another in the 15^th minute. Eustacio Coronel gave Oregon a chance with a goal in the 50^th minute, but De Sota scored his second goal in the final minutes.  

Both Washington 99 and Utah 99 defeated Nevada 99 today. Washington won 5-0 with a 24^th minute goal from Daniel Fazio, a Lucas Meek hat trick in the span of three minutes to open the second half and finally an Agustin Domingo goal. Utah’s Easton Embley would score in the 80^th minute to narrowly defeat Nevada 1-0.

Cal South 99 took a commanding lead in Group C after defeating both Alaska 99 and Arizona 99. Cal South first beat Arizona 2-0 with goals coming from Eduardo Chaires and Alejandro Rodriguez, and then won against Alaska 1-0 with Francisco Gomez scoring the game’s only goal in the 34^th minute. 

1999 Girls

Washington 99 and Cal North 99 both defeated Oregon 99 to sit atop of Group A. Cal North started by defeating Oregon 4-1. Cal North received goals from four different players as Alicia Talancon, Kierra Krawec, Ele Avery and Sarah Broacha all found the back of the net, and Mylene Gorzynski scored for Oregon. Washington then defeated Oregon 3-0 with goals coming from Kirstie Johnson, Mia Powers and Olivia Van Der Jagt.

Utah 99 and Colorado 99 find themselves atop Group B by both defeating Nevada 99. Utah defeated Nevada 2-0 with Kaylee Holt and Mikayla Colohan scoring, while Colorado won 2-1 with the Colorado goals coming from Riley Dietrich and Samantha Trinceri and Nevada’s goal coming from Isabella Olivia.

Cal South 99 sits alone in Group C thanks to two victories against Arizona 99 and New Mexico 99. Cal South had a team effort in the goal department with Claire Grouwinkel, Emily Knous, Kayla Cannon and Lauren Payne all scoring against Arizona, while Hannah Sharts had four of her own against New Mexico.

2000 Boys

Cal South 00 and Arizona 00 rose to the top of Group A by earning wins on day one. Arizona kicked off the scoring against Utah 00 in the 21^st minute with Carter Clemmensen scoring. Utah responded with a pair of goals from Eric Pena in a three-minute span. Arizona’s Richard Ledezma netted a late equalizer in the 64^th minute, and Arizona completed the comeback with Will Clark scoring in the final minute to give Arizona the 3-2 victory. Cal South’s victory was a little less dramatic as the defending national and regional champs defeated Alaska 14-1.

Washington 00 seized the lead in Group B with a 4-0 victory over Colorado 00 thanks to goals from Keeton Heggerness, Jared Butler, Dane Helle and Ernesto Rios. New Mexico 00 and Oregon 00 are in second after tying 1-1 today.

Nevada 00 and Hawaii 00 are tied at the top after Nevada defeated Cal North 00 2-0 courtesy of goals from Isidro Sanchez and John Lynam. Hawaii 00 defeated Idaho 00 3-2 as all five goals were scored in the second half. Justice Gomes and Noe Charles Varner scored within four minutes of each other to open the half for Hawaii, only for Larkin Lane and Adrian Arguello to add two for Idaho, also within four minutes of each other. Varner’s second goal broke the stalemate and ultimately won the game for Hawaii as the score ended 3-2.

2000 Girls

Cal North 00 and Arizona 00 have earned their way to the top of Group A with victories on the opening day. Cal North defeated Alaska 00 3-0 thanks to an opening goal from Cassidy Tshimbalanga and Sydney Shepherd’s brace. Arizona defeated Oregon 00 2-0 with goals coming from Alexcia Aguilar and Nicole Hoffman.

Colorado 00 seized control over Group B with a 1-0 victory over Nevada and a 1-1 tie between Utah 00 and Cal South 00. Madison Williams scored the lone goal for Colorado against Nevada, while Molly Myers and Katie Haskins scored for Cal South and Utah respectively in the draw.

New Mexico 00 and Washington 00 took care of business to earn matching 4-0 wins. New Mexico defeated Idaho with Alexis Keller’s brace being sandwiched in between Emily Avila’s pair of goals. Washington had Summer Yates, Sakura Yoshida, Jordan Snyder and Nicole Souply all score in their winning effort.

2001 Boys

Cal North 01 and Utah 01 sit atop the Group A standings after both shutting out their opponents on day 1. Cal North had eight different scorers in their 8-0 victory over Nevada 01 as Ramiro Juarez, Abel Flores, Edwin Barrios Martinez, Edward Berumen, Walter Mazariegos, Max Edelstein, Armon Olaee and Jack Ferris all got on the board. Utah defeated New Mexico 01 3-0 with goals coming from Dalton Gibson, Michael Neeley and Benjamin Ortiz netting goals.

Washington 01 and Cal South 01 also find themselves on the top of their division with opening wins. Washington defeated Hawaii 01 thanks to goals from Nafthaneal Padilla, Ethan O’Brien, Jonathan Gunn and Hayden Miller while Cal South defeated host Arizona 01 3-1. Angel Flores broke the scoreless stalemate in the 12^th minute, and Cameron Williams doubled the lead just a minute later. Christopher Ramirez responded for Arizona with a goal in the 32^nd minute, but Angel Flores added his second goal in the 60^th minutes to give Cal South the 3-1 win.

Oregon 01 and Alaska 01 climbed to the top of Group C after defeating Colorado 01 and Idaho 01 respectively. Oregon was able to net seven goals thanks to a pair of braces from Wesley Frankel and Leonard Schulak Poliakoff while Alaska’s 3-2 victory over Idaho came at the foot of Drew Rizk who scored the equalizer in the 58^th minute and the game winner in the final minute.

2001 Girls

Both Utah 01 and Cal South 01 secured 2-0 victories to open the tournament in Group A. Utah defeated New Mexico 01 2-0 as Kate Harrison started the scoring early with a goal in the second minute, and Karlee Willey doubled the lead in the 55^th minute. Cal South earned their win in similar fashion as Sarai Zedingil got the defending champs off to a quick start with a goal in the 10^th minute, and Alexandra Palangi added an insurance goal in the 43^rd minute.

Arizona 01 and Cal North 01 are in control of Group B after earning day one wins. Arizona scored 10 goals and shut out Alaska 01 thanks to six goals from Kyla Ferry with Lindsay Hubbard, Tyler Ferguson, Bryce Niimi and Rachael Black also scoring. Cal North scored five unanswered goals after an initial 1-1 tie with Oregon 01 to end at 6-1. Kylie Rojas scored for Cal North in the third minute, but Kyla Sullivan tied things back up for Oregon. Camile Lafaix added two goals to go with goals from Nicole Sweeney, Delaney Soble and Jadyn Shinn as Cal North ran away with the game in the second half.

Washington 01 took charge of Group C with a 2-0 win over Montana 01 thanks to goals from Victoria Wheeler and Hailey Still while Nevada and Hawaii tied 0-0.

2002 Boys

Cal South 02 and Nevada 02 both find themselves at the top of the Group A standings after convincing day one victories. Cal South defeated Hawaii 9-0 as Marco Ceja netted a hat trick by minute 27 and added a fourth in the 62^nd minute. Jose Rios, Andrew Vazquez, Cameron Dunbar, Tyler Oakson and Evan Davila also added goals for Cal South. Nevada defeated Idaho 10-1 as Ryan Rassmussen scored a hat trick to go with braces from Andrew Sicilano and Antino Lopez. Blake Jones, Hiram Triana and Arthur Medina also added goals for Nevada while Idaho’s goal came from Pierce Forest.

Utah 02 and Cal North 02 moved to the top of the Group B standings with wins today as Utah defeated Alaska 02 9-0 and Cal North narrowly defeating Arizona 1-0. George Pineda and Zackery Farnsworth each scored a pair of goals while Jeremy Slick, Armando Mora, Nathan Ortiz, Quinton Dunn and Daniel Powell scored as well. The lone goal of the match between Cal North and Arizona came from Amir Issa as the Cal North defense held on for the 1-0 win.

Colorado 02 and Washington 02 were the final winners in Group C as Colorado defeated New Mexico 02 2-0 and Washington defeated Oregon 02 2-1. Jason Robles scored in the 42^nd minute for Colorado, and Ethan O’Donnell added another in the 73^rd minute. Oregon struck first against Washington in the 34^th minute thanks to a Christopher Lambert goal. However, Jonah Hyman netted the equalizer in the 53^rd minute, and 11 minutes later Joshua Atencio scored the game winner to give Washington the 2-1 victory.

2002 Girls

Utah 02 stands alone at the top of Group A thanks to a 2-0 victory over Arizona 02 and a 1-1 tie between Nevada 02 and Washington 02. Caroline Stringfellow netted the first goal only three minutes into the match and Jenna DiGiandomenico doubled Utah’s lead in the 55^th minute.

Colorado 02 and Cal North 02 began the tournament strong by each earning three points in Group B. Colorado defeated Alaska 4-0 thanks to a hat trick from Jazlynn Elliss and a Jordan Johnson goal. Cal North defeated Oregon 3-1 as Abby Borchers scored just three minutes in. Madeline Winter doubled the lead in the 18^th minute, only for Oregon’s Paige Alexander to get Oregon within one just four minutes later to make it 2-1. Grace Bouton put the nail in the coffin in the 65^th minute with an insurance goal to make the final score 3-1.

Cal South 02 and New Mexico 02 both secured victories over Hawaii 02 as Cal South began the day with a 6-0 victory with Brianna Cortez’s brace highlighting a team scoring effort. New Mexico defeated Hawaii later in the day 3-1 as Mckenna Ford, Isabella Gilbert and Jael Larson scored for New Mexico, while Hawaii’s lone goal of the day came from Maya Hagiwara.
