Fire takes top spot at U13

Chicago Fire Juniors North Pre-Academy concluded the Midwest Regional League Division 1 Blue undefeated and on top of the league standings, earning a wildcard berth to the USYS Region II Championships later this month. The Fire didn’t rest on their laurels, though, and breezed through state cup play, earning shutouts in all but the semifinal, which they won by a 4-2 margin over FCX Black. The Fire will enter the USYS Region II Championship play as No. 1 in the Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25.

In U.S Club Soccer ranks, Met Oval 2002 finished just behind Philadelphia Union in the Northeast Pre-Academy League regular season, climbing four spots to No. 3. After a tough 5-0 loss to Philadelphia Union in May, Met Oval rebounded in a big way, earning a win over former No. 1 New York Red Bulls, Everton FC Westchester, and two victories over No. 22 BW Gottschee to earn a spot in the NEPAL playoffs with a spot in the NPL Finals on the line.

PDA climbs at U14

PDA climbs to No. 15 after earning three wins and a draw since our last update, the latest of those over now No. 7 New York Red Bulls on goals by Christian Arcos and Mohammed Kossay. PDA finished the Development Academy regular season with a 14-4-4 record and heads into the final showcase in Frisco as a team to watch.

No. 6 Baltimore Darby (formerly Baltimore Celtic Darby) solidifies its spot as one of the top teams in the country overall, not just in the US Youth Soccer ranks. Darby won the Region I Champions League finals over some of the top teams in the northeast, then followed up with a Maryland Youth Soccer State Cup championship. Darby heads off to the USYS Region I Championships later this month.

New No. 1 at U15

USYS National League Blue Division winner United FC finished high school season in May, and didn’t miss a beat heading into the Georgia Youth Soccer State Cup. UFA handled its opponents with ease, taking home state cup hardware and earning qualification to the USYS Region III Championships. The tournament will give UFA some practice before it heads to Texas for the USYS National Championships in July.

Next week: U13, U14, and U15 Girls

Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
