Regionals loom at U13

Chicago Fire Juniors South Premier doubled up on its trophy haul in the last month, and climbs to No. 5 with USYS Region II Championship action beginning as we speak. CFJS finished the Midwest Regional League D1 Blue season undefeated and on top of the standings, qualifying for the USYS Region II Championships before Illinois State Cup play even began. The Fire took the state championship crown home on June 5, allowing No. 16 St. Louis Scott Gallagher Elite to advance to regional play as one of three MRL wildcards.

La Roca PO finished the Region IV Desert Premier League season in fifth place, far from automatic qualification to the USYS Region IV Championships, then suffered a loss to eventual league winner Sparta Premier in spring Utah State League play. Suffice it to say that La Roca was not considered a favorite at regionals, but the Utah state champ has swept group play with an outrageous goal differential (24-2) to enter the knockout round on Friday and our rankings at No. 24.

Finals set at U14

Michigan Hawks finished the ECNL regular season with a 6-0 defeat of Vardar to extend its one-loss record to 14-1-3 heading into the playoffs. The No. 3 Hawks are predicted to win their group against No. 9 Eagles, No. 10 Match Fit Academy, and No. 13 Tophat.

PDA climbs at U15

PDA ECNL climbs three spots to No. 8 after sweeping its competition at the ECNL New Jersey Showcase. PDA didn’t concede a goal on the weekend and has given up just 10 goals in all ECNL competition this year. PDA will face last year’s ECNL champion, No. 3 ranked Slammers, in group play at the ECNL playoffs, but if PDA’s defense remains stout, it could squash Slammers hopes for a repeat.

July 7: U16, U17 and U18 Boys update

Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
