South Carolina, Colorado teams add hardware at U13

USA Mt. Pleasant out of South Carolina continues to bring in the hardware, and is becoming more than a solid addition to our rankings. The South Carolina Challenge Cup (a.k.a. State Cup) is in the books and USA took the crown, climbing to No. 18 in the process.

Real Colorado National 02-03 finished second in the Colorado Advanced League, but with an undefeated record and the best goal differential in the league. It proved it belongs in the discussion as one of the top teams in the country after taking the Colorado Youth Soccer State Cup in decisive fashion on May 8. National conceded just a single goal in five matches on its way to a berth in the USYS Region IV Championships.

New No. 1 at U14

FC Dallas earned three more wins to remain one of just two unbeaten teams in the U14 Development Academy, No. 3 Sockers FC being the other, and climbs to the top spot in the Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25. In addition to its 18-0-2 record in the nation’s top league at this age group, FCD went undefeated in group play at last month’s Dallas Cup before falling to Tigres from Mexico in the quarterfinals of the u15 age group.

Two South Atlantic Division Development Academy teams climb up the rankings just before the end of the regular season. Georgia United lands at No. 12 after earning wins against South Carolina Battery Academy, Triangle FC Academy, and Carolina Rapids, while Charlotte SA, up three spots to No. 13, earned wins against TFCA and SC Battery as well as a draw against North Carolina Fusion. These two will face each other in United’s last regular season match on May 21.

RICL Champ climbs at U15

HMMS Eagle FC 00 Titans out of Pennsylvania earned a draw against No. 13 Lou Fusz Geerling, and wins over No. 23 Fullerton Rangers and No. 17 Tennessee SC 16 during the USYS National League season, but its record of 3-3-2 wasn’t good enough to advance to USYS Nationals directly. The Eagle also succumbed to the pressure of the Eastern Pennsylvania State Cup, losing to Penn Fusion Elite ‘00 in the semifinals. The spring regular season has given this team life, though, and the Region I Champions League was a good one for the Titans, who finished first in the Elite Blue division, then swept the playoffs to take the overall league title and earn a bid to the USYS Region I Championships in June.

Next week: U13, U14, and U15 Girls

Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
