NorCal NPL Spring College Showcase recap

The top U14-U19 boys teams met at the NorCal NPL Spring College Showcase over the April 23-24 weekend at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex. Close to sixty college coaches from thirty-eight schools were on hand to see some of the top talent in Northern California. The Showcase featured a dramatic conclusion to the NorCal NPL Champions League. 2015 NPL National Champions, PAC San Jose (U19), were joined on-stage with first time NPL Champions, Ballistic United (U17), Odyssey South (U16), Galt FC (U15), and ECFC Real Salinas (U14). Each of the champions will represent NorCal Premier Soccer at the 2016 NPL National Finals in Aurora, CO from July 14-18.

U19 Boys Champions League

PAC San Jose clinched their second straight NPL title this past weekend and will have a shot at defending their NPL National Title this summer in Aurora, CO. A pair of results helped PAC clinch the league title on Saturday. De Anza Force Blue upset Earthquakes East Valley, 2-1, before PAC clinched the league title with a 5-0 win over CCSA. Earthquakes East Valley rebounded on Sunday, beating Mustang Barcelona 2-0 to finish in second place. De Anza Force finished in third place, maxing out with six points over the weekend after beating Sacramento United, 3-2.

U17 Boys Champions League

Ballistic United took home the NPL title this past weekend in Davis at the NorCal NPL Spring Showcase. They clinched the division title a day early, beating second place Sacramento United, 2-1, with Sam Christensen scoring the winner in the 87th minute. Diablo FC finished in second place after a 0-0 draw with Santa Clara Sporting on Saturday and a 6-2 win over Atletico Santa Rosa on Sunday. Sacramento United finished in third after they dropped their second game of the weekend, 4-2, against De Anza Force.

U16 Boys Champions League

The tightest division race over the weekend was in the U16 Champions League with Odyssey South, Marin FC, and SMC Star all fighting for the NPL title. On Saturday, Marin FC beat Odyssey South (3-1) and SMC Star beat Placer United (2-1) to set up a final day with only one point separating the teams. On Sunday, Marin FC picked up a 4-0 win over Placer United, but Odyssey South held on for the league title by beating SMC Star 2-0. Both Odyssey South goals were scored in the second half with Alexis Rodriguez scoring in the 50th minute and Joshua Roa Chavez scoring in the 66th minute. Marin FC finished in second place while SMC Star finished in third.

U15 Boys Champions League

Galt FC held off challenges from Santa Clara Sporting and Earthquakes East Valley to take home the U15 Boys NPL title. Galt FC picked up a huge 3-0 win over Sporting on Saturday and Earthquakes East Valley beat San Juan, 1-0, to make it a two-team race heading into the final day. On Sunday morning, Galt FC took home the title with a 2-0 win over Odyssey South with the goals being scored by Daniel Ramirez (30th minute) and Adrian Copado (40th minute). Santa Clara Sporting finished in second place, beating Earthquakes East Valley 1-0, and Atletico Santa Rosa finished in third place, beating Sacramento United, 2-0.
