The TeamRank National Championship is a unique rankings setup that only includes team performance from the current season. It begins with events in August and ends with final events in July, at which point a new competition begins and the slate is again wiped clean. Each ranking is only for that August to July season.

Within a Northern California and Hawaiian region that, on the girls’ side at least, is predominantly controlled by one team, the U17 table has seen a team rise to counter the status quo.

San Juan SC U17 ECNL has taken control of the top spot in the Northern California and Hawaii Rankings. Head Coach Bill Wiskel attributes the team success to the many difficult opponents it has to face.

“One of the things that plays in part to our success is the avenues and arenas we put our teams in for competition; it gives them the necessary hunger to succeed,” he said. “For us, playing in the ECNL is important because we are playing top teams in the country.”

Players like Haley Washburn, Katelyn Rowland, Sarah Jensen, and Kyla Booker have been key components to a San Juan team that has also been successful when the squad was in the U14 and U16 age groups.

“There are so many good players on this team,” Wiskel said. “We feel fortunate that we have players like these to represent the club, and the environment they play in is a huge factor.”

The girls are focused to get ready for the ECNL National Event in San Antonio in the beginning of March.

“The last two months are very important. We want to get ready to get results in San Antonio and get us to the top of the table,” Wiskel said.

The other age groups have Ajax United, Blitz FC, and De Anza Force SC in the top five of the U13 Girls table. Elk Grove United and Sonoma County Alliance are tied for fourth in the U14 Girls rankings. Placer Alliance FC and San Juan SC round out the top five for the U15 Girls.

The U16 Girls have Crown City United and Pleasanton Rage in fifth and sixth, while Diablo FC and De Anza Force SC are tied for second in the U18 table.

The U13 Boys sees Atletico Santa Rose, Portugese Athletic Club (PAC), and Stockton Storm FC tied for the top spot. Santa Cruz County holds a small lead in the U14 Boys rankings, and Santa Clara Sporting, Cal Odyssey, Diable FC, Hilmar Milan FC, with Cal Odyssey South are ranked one through five in the U15 Boys standings.

The U16 Boys has Alliance FC (NorCal) and Santa Clara Sporting tied for third, while Ajax United FC, and De Anza Force SC are tied for fourth in the U17 Boys table. The U18 Boys has Diable FC, Palo Alto SC, and Tri Valley (CA), tied for first.
