Wright Time

Former Nomads SC and San Diego Surf forward Anthony Wright has joined Nottingham Forest. Wright is the son of former professional soccer player Paul Wright, who was born England and then starred with various professional leagues in the U.S. The younger Wright seems to be following in his father’s footsteps. Anthony Wright is a forward and scored four goals in seven appearances with Nomads U18 in the Development Academy last season.

Now, Wright is listed with the Nottingham Forest’s U18 side. Wright has made a couple of appearances this season, but has yet to found the back of the net. Nottingham Forest returns to the grind on Sept. 26 with a game against Crystal Palace.

Nottingham Forest was not the first club to take a look at the teenager from Southern Calfiornia. Wright and Luca de la Torre trained with Fulham in 2013. De la Torre eventually joined the club while Wright has now found a new home with Nottingham Forest.

Benny and the Jets

The drama with Ben Lederman and FIFA has reached pinnacle social media awareness as Barcelona fan accounts are now giving live updates for interviews with his father, Danny. The legal hurdles ahead of the family make it a complicated issue, but the young Lederman is not sitting by wasting away.

Lederman has joined IMG Academy and played for the U16 side in the Development Academy on Sunday. He scored a goal in a 3-0 win. Fellow European dreamer Hanif Wright, the younger brother of U.S. U17 MNT forward Haji Wright, scored two goals in the game. Hanif appeared to be close to joining Schalke 04 last season, but the German club ran into a few obstacles in trying to sign him before he turns 18 years old given his lack of a European passport.

IMG Academy is back in action on Sept. 26 against Chargers Soccer Club.

Christian’s Grace

Borussia Dortmund U19 defeated Munster 5-0 on Sunday thanks to a goal and an assist from U.S. U17 MNT standout Christian Pulisic. Dortmund is keeping Pulisic with the club as long as possible prior to the U17 World Cup, so the attacking talent will miss the U17 camp this week in Mexico.

The U17s do have games against South Korea in Florida on Oct. 3 and 5 in Florida before the group heads to Chile for the start of the World Cup.

Edwin and Abe’s Adventure

Former U.S. U17 MNT players Abraham Romero (LA Galaxy) and Edwin Lara (C.F. Pachuca) were named to the Mexico U17 roster for the World Cup. Romero, a goalkeeper, is the likely starter for Mexico at the event. Lara has been battling for playing time in previous games. Mexico opens up World Cup play on Oct. 18 against Argentina.
