The first trip to the East Coast in our 2015 Combine Series took us to a very hot and humid Washington DC. The weather did not deter coaches and top players from coming out for a great experience.

Here are the girls best XI and other standouts from the event.

GK, Grace Young, Richmond United, 2017 – Young has great athleticism and really excelled during full field games. Explosive off the line and comfortable with the ball at her feet, Young showed all the signs of a keeper many years her senior.

DF, Haley Seabolt, Bethesda SC, 2019 – Seabolt was one of the youngest players at the combine, but it did not show. Strong and competitive at the back, she also showcased her ability going forward playing a beautiful cross field diagonal ball into the path of Tompkins, to get an assist.

DF, Gabriella Brown, Penn Legacy, 2019 – Much like Seabolt, Brown showed no signs of her age. Bossing the back during full field games, she made good defensive decisions and kept her passes simple out of the back.

DF, Grace Walsh, Bethesda SC, 2018 – Walsh has a good soccer IQ, stepping well to win possession and bringing a calming presence to the back line. She also showed her ability to get forward and was a constant threat down the flank in full field games.

MF, Caitlyn Cordell, Penn Fusion, 2018 – Cordell is strong technically, and comfortable with both feet. She used her body well during full field games, and ran at players 1v1 when given the opportunity.

MF, Emily Tompkins, FC Virginia, 2017 – Tompkins is a midfielder that likes to get forward, almost in a No. 10 roll. She had great movement during full field games and proved hard to track. Showed her composure with a cracking finish from Seabolts cross field ball – receiving and turning in one movement and smashing the ball into the top corner with her left foot. 

MF, Sydney Ryan, Richmond Kickers, 2016 – Ryan is an athletically gifted box to box midfielder. She had a good pass completion ratio and looked comfortable in possession. The type of player who keeps things simple and plays the way she is facing.

MF, Julianna Lynch, Bethesda SC, 2019 – Lynch is a quiet and confident midfielder who impressed many coaches at the combine. Her smart, quick, neat play caught the eyes of every watching. She also looked a threat on the dribble when she took her opportunities.

MF, Madalyn Tchou, BSC CT Academy, 2018 – Tchou had good movement during full field games, and made some very effective runs in behind the defense. She kept the ball well and never tried to over complicate things. She showed strength and competitiveness defensively.

FW, Tenia Jordan, Patuxent Football Academy, 2016 – Jordan was constantly moving up top, putting the defense under pressure when her team where not in possession and moving into space in behind when they were. She was the most effective when holding up the play and linking up. She scored a great goal during full field games, and created a lot of chances.

FW, Michelle Money, Ellicott Soccer Club, 2018 – Money was constantly involved during full field games, buzzing about up top. She made good decisions in possession and was most effective when dropping into the No. 10 and feeding balls through.
