Texans win U16 Boys National League
March 2, 2009
MARIETTA, Ga.  – Some of the nation’s top teams in the Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Boys age groups resumed play in US Youth Soccer National League Saturday at McEachern High School and Harrison High School in Powder Springs and Keenesaw, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta.

In the second day of play in Atlanta, the National League Boys games continued to showcase meaningful and challenging matches as rankings were altered and a champion was named.

This is the final weekend of play for the Under-16 Boys and today, the Dallas Texans Red 93 were named National League champions, which earns them a direct path to the US Youth Soccer National Championships this summer in Lancaster, Mass.

“I am very happy that our boys came through and won; I think it means a lot,” said Hassan Nazari, head coach of Dallas Texans Red 93 Under-16 Boys.  “I think the National Championships and being part of that tournament is the ultimate prize and they are extremely excited to win this one (US Youth Soccer National League) and be there (US Youth Soccer National Championships) again.”

Sunday’s matches will solidify the Under-16 Boys standings to determine which team will advance  to the National Championships with the Texans and which two teams will earn the right to retain their spots for the 2009-2010 National League season.
The US Youth Soccer National League competition is for the nation's top teams in the Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups, consisting of a total of eight teams per gender age group. The National League offers additional exposure to collegiate, professional and U.S. National Team coaches and offers top-notch competition. The top two teams in each age group earn a direct path to the US Youth Soccer National Championship, played this July 21-26 in Lancaster, Mass., and the top four teams retain their spots in the National League for the following season.

Under-15
The Baltimore Casa Mia Bays 94 (MD) and Solar Red 94 (NTX) had a rough start in the first half of their game, but the two teams came back ready to play after the half. The Bays built their momentum off of Michael Gamble’s 45th minute shot that put them on the board. Malcolm Harris rallied two goals in the 58th and 68th minutes to give the Bays a 3:0 lead. The Bays kept a strong defensive presence and the game ended 3:0, leaving the Bays in first place in the Under-15 Boys age group.

There was no shortage of action in the SCSA 93 Gold (NC) and TFC 94 (NTX) game, as SCSA opened with solid goals by David Claunch and Austin Yearwood in the 1st and 6th minutes of play. They started out with the lead, but TFC challenged it in the 16th minute with a goal from Hayden Partain and Edgar Hernandez hit the TFC equalizer in the 38th for a 2:2 score at the half. SCSA pulled ahead in the 57th, but once again, Hernandez hit the TFC equalizer in the 81st minute. The game ended in a 3:3 draw.

Under-16
Both sitting at 11 League points going into the game, the Dallas Texans Red 93 (NTX) and GSA 93 Phoenix Red (GA) were fighting for the Under-16 Boys National League title. The score was 0:0 at the half, but the tides changed when the Texans’ left wing slid the ball to Kingsley Bryce in the center for a clean finish in the 48th minute. GSA battled back with their skills and local fans cheering in the stands, but the Texans did not waiver and won the game 1:0 to capture the National League title and punch their ticket to the US Youth Soccer National Championships.

Douglass Stevenson put 92 CASL Elite (NC) up one over KCFC Rangers 92-93 (KS) in the 12th minute. CASL held the lead throughout the game and extended it to 3:0 with goals from Dylan Ejlali and Aaron White in the 70th and 76th minutes. Tyler Dixon knocked one in for KCFC in the 80th. The game ended 3:1 for the CASL victory.
It was a 2:2 draw for Blast FC Red (OH-S) and Spirit United Coppa 82 (EPA). Spirit’s Daniel Caya had a 22nd minute opener. Tyler Sfchoener hit one for Blast in the 63rd to even the game, but Spirit’s Andrew Jordan countered in the 77th. Refusing to surrender defeat, Austin Fleak found the back of the net in the 77th to tie the game for Blast. The game ended in a 2:2 draw.

Chicago Fire Jrs. (IL) have been working their way to the top of the League standings this weekend and the 1:0 win over FC Delco (EPA) moved them into third place. Robert Rigg scored the sole goal for Chicago in the 38th minute.

Under-17
Lower Merion Velez (EPA) put up a fight for their 2:1 victory over the Dallas Texans – Houston Division 92 Red (STX). Alexander Suarez knocked in the Texans’ only goal in the 38th minute and Velez soon matched it with a shot from Daniel Lovitz in the 40th. Voltaire Escalona solidified the Velez win with a shot in the 70th minute. The win pushed Velez to the top ranks of the Under-17 Boys as they share a 4-0-2 record with YMS Xplosion.

YMS Xplosion (EPA) set the game’s pace in the first minute with a goal from Brian Powers. Cobb FC (GA) tied the game 1:1 when Al Hagi Toure knocked one past the keeper in the 22nd minute. YMS captured the win with a goal from Jonathan Louisignau in the 59th. YMS is tied for first with Lower Merion Velez, the two Eastern Pennsylvania teams will battle it out tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET at McEachern High School Stadium.
