As dynamic and eye-popping as Mariana Galvan can be on the soccer field, at heart she’s just a hometown girl from San Jose, California.

Her soccer talents will likely take her places soon enough, but the time hasn’t come just yet.

Galvan, the No. 27 ranked player in the 2013 class Top 100, has committed to Santa Clara keeping her in familiar surroundings for the coming years.

“It was important for me to stay close because most of my family is here and this way they can come and watch my home games,” Galvan said. “My dad's presence at my games has been important to me and I also have a sister that is attending Santa Clara, which is nice.”

In longtime Santa Clara Sporting product Galvan, the Broncos will be receiving a huge talent in a small package. She’s a quick and creative attacker who can really cause trouble for opposing defenses.

Galvan has been a standout performer at U.S. National camps over the past few years and has big aspirations as a player but small town sensibility as a person.

“I was considering UCLA or a college that has a huge athletic department but I felt like Santa Clara was a perfect fit for me,” Galvan said. “I’ve grown up in small schools and Santa Clara is just the right size. I’m looking forward to it.”

Another player whose college arrival is being looked forward to is Slammers FC midfielder Sarah Teegarden.

Ranked No. 33 in the 2013 class Top 100, Teegarden nearly joined by Galvan by committing to Santa Clara but instead has announced that she will head east and attend Wake Forest.

“It was a crazy process,” Teegarden said. “For the last two years I’ve watched college games and visited as many campuses as possible trying to figure out who I liked and who liked me. Wake took the time to watch me during ODP and ECNL events, and I made it to their campus and loved it.

“It’s a strong academic school with a small class size and a top competitive soccer program – everything I was looking for.”
