There could have been no one in goal and the girl's U17 Birmingham United SA squad could still have come away with victories this weekend. On Saturday they pummeled their opponent, U17 Gulf Coast United Dynamo, 6-0 and followed that performance by drilling four goals against U17 MS-JFC Fire on Sunday.

There could actually have been truth to the prior statement, as BUSA didn’t have a goalkeeper for the weekend.

“Our starting goalkeeper, Rachel Ames, wasn’t available to play due to a death in the family,” explained BUSA Manager Harry Harnett. “So we took our top forward and played her in goal.”

And that would be Julia Ferguson, who did a great job collecting 10 saves en route to her double shutout.

Haley Gerken opened the scoring against GCU Dynamo within the first ten minutes of the game. In the 28th minute, Katie Compton doubled the lead and ten minutes later Alicia Hereford added a third.

The last three goals were scored within five minutes of each other. In the 43rd minute Bailee Harnett found the back of the net while Georgia Russell capped off the scoring in the 38th and 43rd minute.

Birmingham’s offense, even without its top forward, didn’t let off in its second game as Bailee scored in the 7th minute and finished her brace in the 54th, meanwhile Samantha Manzo snuck one past MS-JFC Fire’s goalkeeper in the 15th minute.

Georgia Russell has verbally committed to Mississippi while Bailee Harnett has verbally committed to the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB).
