U20 WNT relies on depth in quest for title
The quest for winning the 2016 U20 World Cup began in October of 2014. Shortly after the last group of players ended their bid at bringing home the hardware, another group stepped up and began the laborious task toward assuming one of the most valuable trophies in women’s soccer.
Over the past 18 months, U.S. U20 Women’s National Team head coach Michelle French has called in 93 players to 13 camps/events. No player has participated in every camp while Beach FC midfielder and USC commit Savannah DeMelo leads the way with appearances in 12 camps.
French has been challenged with finding the right players to fit her style of play while also being respectful of the college season and commitments for the players along the way. With the World Cup upcoming, French’s approach toward the availability of college players may change, but she has done her due diligence to this point in bringing in a large pool of players as the group preps for the World Cup later this year.
