The Winter Development Academy Showcase is in the books. Over the past five days, we brought you exclusive coverage and game video of the event which also featured coverage of the U.S. U17 Men’s National Team competing at the Nike Friendlies.

Today we take a look back at the top performing teams, in our recap from the marquee Academy event. We’ll continue our post coverage by highlighting the top players from the showcase Friday.

Top Teams (undefeated, untied)

U15/16


California Development Academy
Victims: Beat Richmond Strikers, Birmingham United, Houston Dynamo
Summary: California Development Academy continues to establish itself as one of the top clubs in the country despite the modest size of its surrounding community. CDA was firmly in control for all three days, posting two shutouts. Goalkeeper Reed Zaiss started in net for both matches, and received good support from striker Nathaniel Nugen who recorded four goals over the three matches.

Charlotte Soccer Academy
Victims:
Beat PDA, St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro, FC Greater Boston
Summary: Charlotte Soccer Academy opened its season with authority. Two shutouts and a 5-1 thumping over St. Louis Gallagher Metro started the new campaign off on the right foot. Charlotte enjoyed a balanced effort offensively, and got a great performance from goalkeeper James Pyle who allowed one goal over three games.

D.C. United
Victims:
Beat Colorado Rush AJ Auxerre, Indiana United Academy, FC Milwaukee
Summary: D.C. United improved to 4-0-1 on the young season. Yaw Amankwa continued to look impressive as a physically gifted attacker. He scored two goals for the showcase and played well with other key players like midfielders Collin Martin and Michael Russo.

Internationals
Victims:
Beat Seacoast United, Albertson SC, PA Classics
Summary: Coming off a season in which they reached National Finals Week, Internationals are off to a 4-1-0 start. In Phoenix, the squad kept opposing scoring down and got dependable performances from key players.

L.A. Galaxy
Victims:
Beat Andromeda, South Carolina United, Birmingham United
Summary: The Galaxy was dominant during the three-game gathering, outscoring opponents 10-1. Justin Dhillon and Jack McBean both recorded hat-tricks on separate occasions while goalkeeper Joshua McNeely was strong in goal and posted a pair of shutouts.

Real So Cal
Victims:
Beat Classics Elite, Clearwater Chargers, Texans SC Houston
Summary: Another strong showing from the SoCal Division. Real So Cal allowed just one goal and recorded seven different goal scorers during the showcase.

Vardar
Victims:
Beat Potomac, Oakwood Soccer Club, Empire United
Summary: Another effort that was spearheaded on the defensive end, Vardar surrendered just one goal during their three matches. Goalkeeper Matthew Smolinski was partially responsible for that as he started all three of his team’s matches.


U17/18

North Carolina Fusion
Victims:
Beat New England Revolution, Empire United and FC Westchester.
Summary: It was the season opener for the Fusion. Mamadee Nyepon scored twice and North Carolina prevailed in a couple of tight matches to leave the showcase feeling good.

Sockers FC
Victims:
Beat North Meck, FC Westchester and Oakwood Soccer Club.
Summary: In three low scoring matches, the Sockers managed to allow just one score. Key players for the squad include Thomas Arns, David Selvaggi, Charlie Giovenco and Khaliq McKenzie.

Colorado Rush AJ Auxerre
Victims:
Beat D.C. United, Match Fit Chelsea and Met Oval.
Summary: Baboucarr Jammeh, of Gambia, put on a consistently stellar performance in scoring in every match. Colorado also showed some grit on the defensive side to improve to 4-1-2 on the year.

FC Dallas
Victims:
Beat Kendall SC, San Jose Earthquakes, Chivas USA
Summary: FC Dallas is something to behold. Go ahead and put them down for Finals Week, because barring any season-altering events, they’ll be there. Dallas (9-1-3) didn’t allow a single goal over the three matches and boast top players like Michael Ambrose, Jonathan Top and Moises Hernandez.

Andromeda
Victims:
Beat LA Galaxy, McLean Youth Soccer, Crossfire Premier
Summary: Goalkeeper Kyle Baylis posted two shutouts to lead Andromeda to a big week. Kyle Underwood scored two goals to help the cause.

Pateadores
Victims:
Beat Weston FC, Atlanta Fire and Richmond Kickers
Summary: Really took it to the Kickers on the final day. Described as more technical than physical, Pateadores did show some toughness in posting two shutouts. Maxxwell Bauman had four goals in three games, including a hat-trick against the Fire, while Irvin Parra-Anaya scored twice.
