Akron men beat FAU

October 6, 2009
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No. 1 University of Akron men's soccer team used three first-half goals, including two from sophomore Teal Bunbury, to finish off Florida Atlantic, 3-0, Saturday night at FAU Soccer Stadium.

With the win, the Zips (9-0-0, 2-0-0 Mid-American Conference) stayed perfect on the season as well as extended their shutout streak to six games. UA, which has allowed just one goal all season, has not allowed a goal in their last 574:00 of play.

The Zips, who out-shot the Owls 20-2 for the game, wasted little time offensively as Bunbury and sophomore Michael Nanchoff connected on a goal in the game's second minute off a corner kick.

The early goal was a continuation of a pair of heightened performances from the Akron duo. For Nanchoff, it was his eighth assist in his last four games while for Bunbury, it was the third time in four games he has found the net at least once. In fact, with his second goal of the game in the 30th minute, Bunbury posted his third multiple-goal contest in nine games this season.

UA added another goal before helftime for added measure when freshman Ben Speas put the ball between the pipes off a redirect from Hermann Trophy candidate Anthony Ampaipitakwong in the game's 38th minute.

The Zips will next head to Illinois-Chicago next Wednesday for an 8 p.m. (EST) kickoff. It is the second contest of a four-game road swing before UA returns to Lee Jackson Field for Northern Illinois on Oct. 17.
