Basubas earns Academic All-Patriot League honors

November 2, 2011
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women’s soccer senior Jana Basubas was recognized on Wednesday with Academic All-Patriot League honors, as announced by the league. Basubas was voted on by the league’s Sports Information Directors as one of 11 members on the team. The Patriot League’s only Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award candidate, Basubas shined on the field and in the classroom during her stellar four-year career.

This marks the second year of existence for the Academic All-Patriot League Team; Liz Carlos and Natalie Hojnacki were on the team a year ago. Basubas has excelled in the classroom, posting a 3.40 GPA as a Sociology/Social Psychology major while minoring in two separate areas as well: Political Science and Business. Her academic honors are endless, including: Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Dean’s List, Class of 1904 Award, Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sport Scholar Award and much more.

Basubas wrapped up her career this season by once again starting every game, meaning she not only played in, but also started, all 72 games of her career. The highlight came a year ago when she was named a First Team All-Patriot League honoree while helping lead the Mountain Hawks to their first Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The defensive midfielder finished 2010 with a career-high nine points (four goals, one assist) while helping spearhead a defense which allowed only 21 goals in 20 games, including three straight 1-0 shutouts bridging the end of the regular season and through the Patriot League Semifinal and Championship Game.

Basubas’ honor comes one day after sophomore Murphee Greeley and senior Genna Pepe were named First Team All-League honorees.
