Beavers Drop Conference Opener at No. 20 Cal

The Beavers (5-3-2, 0-1 Pac-12) were led by juniorEmma Jones and freshman Nicole Nickerson who both tallied a pair of shots on frame. Junior goalkeeperBella Geist had a career match, recording a career-high eight saves in the loss. Her previous high was five, which she gathered three times.
 
Oregon State played with the Golden Bears (8-2, 1-0 Pac-12) through the first 30-minutes of play. Cal found the back of the net at 31:31 after Ifeoma Onumonu slipped past the defense and put one past Geist. The Bears weren't done, as they pushed the score to 2-0 not even a minute later. Mia Corbin scored her first goal of her career at 32:27 after putting a left-footed shot into the top of the goal.
 
After the break, Cal added to its lead in the 68th minute after Corbin again found the back of the net.
 
The Beavers had a pair of opportunities late in the match off of corner kicks, but failed to break the drought.
 
The Beavers continue Pacific-12 Conference play at Paul Lorenz Field next weekend with a pair of ranked opponents. OSU will welcome No. 11 UCLA on Thursday for a 7 p.m., match before playing No. 10 USC on Sunday at 1 p.m.
