FARGO, N.D.—Freshman Kavita Battan notched the Vandals first goal of the season and redshirt freshman Elexis Schlossarekadded a goal of her own but North Dakota State was able to withstand Idaho’s offensive push and walked off Dacotah Field on Friday with the 3-2 advantage.

Idaho (0-4-0) had its best offensive showing of the season. The Vandals fired off six shots on the day, four of which made it through to NDSU keeper Sierra Bonham. Bonham was forced to make three saves on the day.

"I was happy with the offensive output today," head coach Pete Showler said following the game. "We started executing on what we have been working on and it was effective today. As a team we still need to keep improving, but it was nice to see two players get their first career goals."

North Dakota State (2-3-0) got on the board early with a set-piece goal on a corner kick. Amy Yang found Anisha Kinnarath off the corner kick and Kinnarath found the back of the net 6:10 into the game. The Bison led 1-0 for a majority of the first half. The two teams traded possessions until Battan even the score in the 33rd minute. Junior transfer Kat Comesana combined with Battan on a crossing pass and Battan stuffed it home to even the score, 1-1.

At the start of the second half keeper Torell Stewart subbed in for Marina Siegl. Stewart, who started the previous game, didn’t face a shot on goal until the 66th minute when Lauren Miller was able to a shot off from 20-yards out to beat Stewart. Just over two minutes later Stewart took down the NDSU forward inside the goal box in a race to the ball, drawing the linesman to award a penalty kick. Kinnarath converted the spot kick for her second goal of the game.

In similar fashion Schlossarek converted on a penalty kick opportunity in the 78th minute. Battan got tackled inside the goal box, and Schlossareck executed the penalty kick for her first-career points, bringing the Vandals within one goal. The Vandals fought hard in the final 12 minutes to get the tying goal, but NDSU held tight for their second win of the season.

Idaho will travel to Omaha, Neb., to battle Creighton (2-2-0) on Sunday. First kick is set for 11:00 a.m. PT.

NOTES: NDSU’s converted penalty kick was the first successful conversion against Idaho since Oct. 26, 2007 against Nevada…Three of the previous attempts had been saved and one went wide…Schlossarek’s PK goal was the first for the Vandals since Chelsea Small (2009-12) converted on Oct. 28, 2010 against San Jose State…Senior defender Chelsie Breen has started a total of 64 matches for Idaho, now tied for 11th all-time with Christine Rennick (1998-01)…Idaho holds a 3-1 series lead over NDSU.
