November 1, 2010
Junior Edvin Worley and sophomore Charlie Rugg each tallied second-half scores, but host Wake Forest used four second-half goals of its own, including three from sophomore Andy Lubahn, to earn a 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over No. 18 Boston College before 1,864 fans at Spry Stadium. The loss marked Boston College’s first since Sept. 28 at Connecticut, a span of seven games during which the team went 4-0-3. Boston College took a 1-0 lead off a Wake Forest own goal scored after a corner kick taken by junior midfielder Amit Aburmad in the 43rd minute. BC led by that score at halftime. Wake Forest got on the scoreboard four minutes, 45 seconds into the second half when junior Luke Norman netted the equalizer in the 50th minute. Lubahn then lifted Wake Forest to its first lead – at 2-1 – at the 58th minute on the first of a flurry of three goals – two for the Demon Deacons (both scored by Lubahn) and one for the Eagles – in a span of just 2:13. Lubahn doubled the Wake Forest lead on his second goal of the match just 58 seconds after his first. BC’s Worley brought the visiting Eagles back within one goal – at 3-2 – on his sixth of the season at 59:33. Lubahn later completed his hat trick by tallying the decisive goal in the 71st minute. Rugg concluded the game’s scoring on his seventh goal of the season – an unassisted tally – in the 89th minute. BC, which outshot Wake Forest 7-4 in the first half, was outshot 10-5 in the game’s final 45 minutes.
