CONWAY – Sergio Camargo and Jakub Stourac each scored in the first half to lead 11th-ranked Coastal Carolina to a 2-0 win over East Tennessee State in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday evening at the CCU Soccer Field.

The win, which improves the Chanticleers’ record to 18-4-0 overall, advances Coastal Carolina to the Tournament’s Second Round where they will travel to regional foe Charlotte. First kick at the 49ers’ Transamerica Field is set for 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24.

ETSU’s season comes to an end with a 10-6-4 record.

In addition to the advancing victory, Chanticleer goalkeeper Devin Cook used a four save performance to post his 11th shutout of the season. Cook’s 11 clean sheets set the all-time Big South record for single season.

After dominating possession and pace of play through the first 15 minutes of action, the Chanticleer broke through on the scoreboard at the 16:03 mark of play. Camargo collected a ball in the box from Agust Arnarson that had deflected off an ETSU defender and hammered a bouncing shot inside the near post for his ninth goal of the season.

Coastal continued to stay on the ball over the ensuing 15 minutes and limited the Buccaneers’ touches on their attacking side of the field. Stourac then made it 2-nil in the Chants favor in the 32nd minute with a missile of a shot inside the near post. Pedro Ribeiro set up the score for his seventh assist of the campaign. Ribeiro, who had a pair of defenders on his back, used a back-heel flick to spring the streaking Stourac free from the left flank. Stourac beat his defender to the edge of the box and ripped his strike past the diving ETSU keeper for his second goal in as many games.

The Buccaneers had a quality opportunity to cut into the Chanticleers’ lead in the 43rd minute as Joao Ramalho was able to beat his mark to the left edge of the box and rip a shot on goal. However, Cook was there to make the diving save and preserve the Chant’s 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Coastal again controlled the better part of the possession battle in the second half, but the Buccaneer defense held strong and kept the Chants off the scoreboard.  Coastal tallied six second-half shots and two corner kicks, but were unable to piece together final strikes in its attacking third.

ETSU matched the Chants with six shot attempts in the second half, but the Chanticleer backline was there to turn each Buccaneer threat aside just as they have done more times than not this season.

Coastal Carolina finished the game with a 17-11 advantage in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Chants also earned seven corner kicks to ETSU's one.

Coastal is now 4-0 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches played at the CCU Soccer Field with First Round wins in each of the past three seasons. The win also leveled CCU’s all-time Tournament record to 8-8-2.
