DAYTON EARNS OVERTIME WIN AT SAINT LOUIS

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team scored in the 93rd minute to take a 3-2 victory from Saint Louis Wednesday night on the road.

Dayton (7-4-1, 2-0-0 A-10) defeated Saint Louis (4-4-1, 0-1-1 A-10) to remain undefeated in conference play this season.

 

KEY STATS

In the first half, goalkeeper Justin Saliba recorded five saves, which is the most in any game this season. Saint Louis out-shot Dayton 8-4 and put seven on target. Sophomore Oliver Hansen came on for the second half and overtime, recording two saves.

The fourth-minute goal by James Haupt was the fastest score of the season for the Flyers.

Nwabia’s second-half goal came on just his second shot of the season.

By the end of regulation, Dayton had 10 shots compared to Saint Louis’ 13 attempts. The Billikens also benefited from an 11-6 advantage on corner kicks.

It was the second overtime game for the Flyers this season and fourth for the Billikens.

Carlos Sendin’s game-winner was his second straight game with the decisive goal in the late stages of the contest.

 

DAYTON GOALS

8th Minute – Junior James Haupt had only the keeper to beat on a breakaway off a SLU turnover for his fifth goal of the season. (Dayton 1, Saint Louis 0)

52nd Minute – Freshman Kennedy Nwabia scored his first career goal with a header to the far post off the cross from Haupt. (Dayton 2, Saint Louis 2)

93rd Minute – Senior Carlos Sendin scored in overtime on a shot to the right side of the goal off the cross from junior Coletun Long. (Dayton 3, Saint Louis 2)

 

SAINT LOUIS GOALS

10th Minute – Joe Saad scored his first of the season after a defensive miscue by Dayton gave the Billiken winger the ball in the Flyer box unmarked and he slotted it home. (Dayton 1, Saint Louis 1)

14th Minute – Saad scored his second of the match and season to give the host Billikens the lead with a precise finish off the cross by Filip Pavisic from the right. (Dayton 1, Saint Louis 2)

 

NEXT UP

The Flyers will return to Baujan Field for their Atlantic 10 home opener against Saint Joseph’s Saturday at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.

It will be Youth Day at the field with the first 100 kids getting free popcorn prior to the game. After the contest, the Dayton Flyers will sign autographs with free team posters given out to fans. As Camper Reunion Day, a bounce house will be in the parking lot next to the field also.
