October 14, 2014

BALTIMORE, Md.  –  Despite junior defender Jhamie Hydescoring the game-tying goal midway through the second half at UMBC, the Hawks were unable to hold off the reigning league champion as they fell victim to a late goal and lost, 2-1, to the Retrievers at Retriever Soccer Park on Saturday afternoon. Hartford, which opens up a two-game homestand by hosting Stony Brook at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, dips to 5-5-2 on the season with an 0-2-0 mark in America East action.

Geaton Caltabianco found the go-ahead goal for UMBC (6-4-2) in the 84th minute on a set piece to improve the Retrievers' record to 2-0-0 in league action and extend their unbeaten streak in league action to 14 games. The Retrievers took an early lead in the match as Stephen Ho opened up the scoring with a goal at the 4:09 mark. The home team held on to that advantage into intermission until the 63rd minute, when Hyde scored his first career marker out of a corner kick. The two squads battled back-and-forth, but UMBC capitalized on a Hartford foul just outside of the 20-yard box to steal the win in the 84th minute.

Hawk keeper David MacKinnon finished the match with two saves while his counterpart, Billy Heavner, finished with three stops.
