NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team wrapped up a two win weekend with a 2-1 victory over Niagara Sunday afternoon at Mazzella Field.

Iona quickly got on the the board.  Just one minute and ten seconds into the match, sophomore Safi Ayinde intercepted a Niagara pass and put a shot on goal.  Ayinde's initial shot was stopped by Niagara goalkeeper Claire Feiertag but she was able to put the rebound in for her first goal of the season.

The score would hold up for the remainder of the first half, and ten minutes into the second half.  In the 57th minute, Michaela DeFazio found teammate Haillie Price who put a shot just past Iona goalkeeper Trista Rivera for her third goal of the season, tying the game at one.

The Gaels would net the game winner in the 73rd minute.  Junior Christina Tesoriero put a shot on goal from about 25 yards away that hit the crossbar.  Sophomore Melissa Frederick was in the right place at the right time as she sent the rebound in for her second goal of the season.

Overall, Niagara led in shots 14-13, with each team putting five shots on goal.  Rivera and Feiertag each recorded three saves for their respective squads.

"What a weekend," said head coach Mike Barroqueiro.  "It's great to be at home and certainly great to get two big results. The girls have been working incredibly hard and this was a great way to cap off the week. That being said we have another big weekend ahead of us and we need to refocus quickly."

Iona looks to continue to its winning streak Friday, when they travel to Siena for a 4:00 pm matchup with the Saints.
