BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's soccer freshman Annika Jansa was recognized on Monday for her strong play on the backline with Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. Jansa helped lead a Lehigh defense which allowed just three shots in Friday's 1-0 win over American, which clinched a home game in Tuesday's Patriot League Quarterfinals.

The weekly award marks Jansa's first of her career and the 13th overall weekly honor by Lehigh women's soccer this season. She's also the third different Mountain Hawk freshman to win Patriot League Rookie of the Week, along with Sam Miller (three times) and Sidonie Warnecker (once). Miller was also named Goalkeeper of the Week twice, senior Tori Pantaleo garnered Offensive Player of the Week twice and junior Adrian Vitello earned Midfielder of the Week twice. Junior Alyssa Riporti and sophomore Clare Severe were each named Defensive Player of the Week as well.

Jansa helped the Mountain Hawks clinch their first home game in the Patriot League Tournament since 2005. Only one of the three shots Lehigh allowed against American Friday was on goal, tying a season-best for fewest shots and shots on goal allowed by the Mountain Hawk defense. In the end, the defense pitched its 12th shutout of the season (in 17 games) as Lehigh stands fourth nationally in shutout percentage (.706).

Sophomore Sabrina Mertz also garnered honorable mention laurels on Monday after scoring the game's only goal in the 74th minute.

The Mountain Hawks enter their first Patriot League Tournament since 2012 as the No. 3 seed and will host sixth-seeded Lafayette on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children and seniors, and $3 for Lehigh students. Click here for more information and to purchase online.
