BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's soccer team got back on the right foot with a win over Conference Carolinas opponent Southern Wesleyan University. An early goal gave the Tornado the lead and there was no looking back from there as they cruised to a 4-1 victory.

After dropping a couple contests, King (7-7, 4-4 CC) looked back in winning form when they took the field against Southern Wesleyan. In the early going, Rachel Thorpe delivered two shots at net, both saved by Krista Anonie, the Warriors keeper. In the 16th minute, Thorpe found the back of the net, her tenth goal of the season. Rayna Spears sent the ball across the box and Thorpe ripped it by the keeper making the score King 1, Southern Wesleyan 0.

King would continue to tally shot after shot but nothing would get by the keeper. The Tornado outshot the Warriors 11-2 in the first half however; the score remained 1-0 going into the half.

The Tornado came out looking for more in the second half and that is exactly what they got. This time, Spears delivered for King in the 53rd minute on an assist from Hulda Sigurdardottir. Spears received the pass and sent the ball into the bottom left side of the net. King now led Southern Wesleyan 2-0. About a minute later Catherine Walsh opened the score up to 3-0. Sigurdardottir delivered a pass to Walsh in the middle of the box where Walsh turned quickly and hit shot past Anonie.

In the 77th minute, the scoring did not stop for King. Kendyl Baird picked up a deflection and sent it off the crossbar and into the net making the score 4-0. Southern Wesleyan (2-10, 1-7 CC) added one in the 88th minute to make the score 4-1.

King outshot Southern Wesleyan 29-4 and posted nine corner kicks to the Warriors one. Nicole Daghertallied two saves in her fifth win of the year.

The Tornado will host Erskine College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Parks Field.
