Lehigh earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

December 28, 2011
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women’s soccer team was recently honored for its work in the classroom with an NSCAA Academic Award, as unveiled earlier this month. It marks the Mountain Hawks’ ninth straight season with the honor, presented to teams with a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is for the 2010-11 academic year.

The Mountain Hawks are one of only 572 women’s teams in the nation to be honored, which includes Divisions I, II and II. Lehigh is one of only 162 schools in the nation to see both its men’s and women’s soccer teams recognized.

Lehigh has earned the team award every year dating back to 2003. The Mountain Hawks garnered numerous academic honors during a strong 2011 campaign. Senior Jana Basubas led the way with Academic All-Patriot League honors, posting a 3.40 GPA as a Sociology/Social Psychology major while also minoring in Political Science and Business. In August, she was named one of only 30 candidates nation-wide for the prestigious Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Basubas and 11 other Mountain Hawks also cracked the most recent Patriot League Academic Honor Roll last January.

Lehigh wrapped up its season with a 6-9-2 record, 2-3-1 in Patriot League play after its game at Holy Cross was called 30 minutes in due to snow. The Mountain Hawks lose six seniors, but return 20 underclassmen next season, including the current freshman class of nine which saw significant collegiate action.
