Lehigh hands out awards at annual banquet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team held its annual awards banquet on Sunday (Dec. 6) at the Gander Room. The Mountain Hawks looked back at the 2015 season, seniors were recognized and team awards were presented.

Award winners: Nahapetian, Stratton and Morgan

 
Athlete of the Year was awarded to senior goalkeeper Ani Nahapetian, who excelled in her first season as full-time starter, posting a 1.23 goals against average and .824 save percentage with five shutouts. The Pleasanton, California native was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week twice, earning shutouts against league opponents Holy Cross, Colgate and Lafayette while pitching an 11-save shutout at Penn to give Lehigh its first-ever road win against the Quakers.
 
Sophomore Amanda Stratton earned the Scholar-Athlete Award, who, in the eyes of her teammates, best exemplifies the ideal scholar-athlete. Stratton owns an impressive 3.84 cumulative GPA in Bioengineering. A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Stratton has excelled on the field as well. In 2015, she played in all 18 games (with 17 starts) as an anchor of Lehigh's defense, dishing a pair of assists.
 
Presented to senior Madi Morgan, the Coaches Award honors the student-athlete who, in the eyes of the coaching staff, made significant contributions to her team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership. Morgan was a staple at defensive midfield for the Mountain Hawks, impressing defensively while contributing on the offensive end as well. Her first-career goal came in overtime at Temple to give Lehigh a thrilling win against the Owls.

Also on Sunday, the seniors reflected on their four years, spoke about their Lehigh experience and gave advice to the returning players.
 
Lehigh enjoyed several highlights in 2015, which included a 3-1 record against Philadelphia area schools - beating Temple, Saint Joseph's and Penn while dropping a slim final to La Salle. The Mountain Hawks also tied MAAC Regular Season Champion Monmouth, who finished the regular season with a 13-2-2 overall record, while earning Patriot League victories over Loyola and archrival Lafayette.
