Lehigh hosts Navy Wednesday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a heartbreaking loss at Colgate, the Lehigh women's soccer team will look to bounce back on Wednesday when it kicks off a three-game homestand by hosting Navy at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Raiders took an early lead before the Mountain Hawks responded with two straight goals, but Colgate answered with the tying goal and the overtime game-winner.
 
Colgate scored 10:15 into Saturday's game, ending Lehigh's nation's longest and school-record shutout streak at 832:31 dating back to last season, and 758:34 to begin the year. The Mountain Hawks responded with a vengeance as junior Alyssa Riporti scored just 13:08 later to pull even. Then, after a long stretch of scoreless soccer, freshman Sidonie Warnecker netted her third goal of the season in the 86th minute. However, the Raiders scored the equalizer just 37 seconds later while scoring the game-winner only 1:43 into overtime.
 
After scoring the game-winning overtime goal against Temple Tuesday, sophomore Clare Severe was recognized by the Patriot League on Monday by named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. It marked Lehigh's ninth weekly award of the season and second Defensive Player of the Week honor (along with junior Alyssa Riporti).
 
Heading into Wednesday's game, Lehigh stands 7-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks' eight-game unbeaten streak which ended Saturday was a school record, while their seven-game winning streak tied a program mark.
 
Navy stands 4-7-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in Patriot League play, most recently dropping a 2-1 overtime final at Loyola. The team's wins have come at Niagara (3-1), against Maryland (5-3), vs. Army West Point (1-0) and at Mount St. Mary's (2-0). The Midshipmen are led offensively by Clare McAdam with 16 points behind six goals and four assists. Caddie Higginson has 11 points (five goals, one assist) while Anabell Motley owns six points (two goals, two assists). Dayton Wetherby has started 11-of-12 games in goal, posting a 1.70 goals against average and .689 save percentage.
 
The Mids have won six straight games against Lehigh to take a 17-4-4 lead in the all-time series. Lehigh's last win vs. Navy came at home on Oct. 9, 2011 by a 1-0 final.
 
Following Wednesday's game, the Mountain Hawks remain home on Saturday to host Army West Point at 7 p.m.
