Lehigh's Greeley & Wiegand rack in Patriot League weekly awards

September 19, 2011

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following an unblemished road weekend, a pair of Lehigh women’s soccer players were honored on Monday with Patriot League weekly awards. Sophomore forward Murphee Greeley was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week while freshman forward Darby Wiegand garnered Rookie of the Week. Greeley scored three goals in two games last week while Wiegand added a key insurance tally in Sunday’s 2-0 win at NJIT.

Greeley, who now has two-career Offensive Patriot League weekly awards, finished the weekend with three of Lehigh’s six goals while also helping set up the game-winner at Quinnipiac. She began on Friday by setting a career-high two goals against the Bobcats, marking her first-career multi-goal game. Greeley gave Lehigh a 2-0 advantage at 20:39 while scoring an insurance tally at 51:40 to make it 4-1. She also helped set up the Mountain Hawks’ third (and eventual game-winning) goal at 50:23. Her shot helped set up fellow sophomore Paige Dyrek perfectly for the tap-in.

The Devon, Pa. native made her impact known quickly on Sunday at NJIT; she entered the match at 23:56 and scored the game’s first goal less than three minutes later. In total, Greeley finished the weekend with seven shots (five on goal). She now leads the team with three goals and seven points in 2011.

Wiegand has continued to impress, leading to her first-career goal at NJIT. It was a much-needed marker to give Lehigh a 2-0 lead and key insurance with less than 20 minutes remaining in the second half. Wigand finished Sunday with four shots and two on goal to tie a game-high (with Greeley). She also had two shots (one on goal) Friday at Quinnipiac.

The Mountain Hawks (3-2-1) return to action in Philadelphia this weekend when they face a pair of Atlantic 10 foes. They first play Saint Joseph’s on Friday at 5 p.m. before heading to La Salle on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday’s match will mark a homecoming for Lehigh assistant coach Amy Hough, who is a former La Salle student-athlete and assistant coach.
