Marist's 2016 Schedule Released

June 8, 2016

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men’s soccer team and Head Coach Matt Viggiano have released the 2016 regular season schedule. The Red Foxes will play 18 games: eight non-conference matchups followed by 10 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference bouts. The schedule includes five teams that competed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

Marist will open the 2016 regular season against the Albany Great Danes at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 in the capital city of New York. It will be the first time since 2008 that both squads have faced off in the regular season. After hosting Hartwick College, last season’s winners of the Sun Belt Conference, on Aug. 30 and local rival Army West Point on Sept. 4, the Red Foxes will compete in the UNC-Wilmington Tournament. The competition in North Carolina will be a pair of defending conference champions. Marist will play the reigning Big South Conference Champion, Winthrop, at 5 p.m. Sept. 9 and square off against Dayton at 12 p.m. Sept. 11. The Flyers won the Atlantic 10 title in 2015.

The Red Foxes will host a pair of America East teams in last year’s champion Vermont (Sept. 17) and Stony Brook (Sept. 21). Both games will kick off at 7 p.m. under the Tenney Stadium lights. The Sept. 17 contest against the Catamounts will be the nightcap of a doubleheader with the Marist women’s soccer team. The Marist men went into overtime at Stony Brook during the 2015 season.

The red and white’s non-conference finale will be held at St. Bonaventure at 5 p.m. Sept. 24.

MAAC competition begins with a 7 p.m. showdown against Quinnipiac on Oct. 1, which also kicks off a stretch of five Marist home games for the month. After hosting Iona on Oct. 5, Marist will hit the road for matchups at Fairfield (Oct. 8) and Canisius (Oct. 12), then battle the defending MAAC champion Rider Broncs at 7 p.m. Oct. 15. The Red Foxes beat all three of those conference foes last season, taking down Fairfield in overtime and Canisius in a one-goal affair. Marist blanked Rider 2-0 in New Jersey in last year’s MAAC opener.

Following a midweek matchup against Manhattan on Oct. 19, Marist will travel to Saint Peter’s on Oct. 22 and welcome Niagara at 4 p.m. October 26 for the home finale. The Red Foxes’ last  two regular season games will be on the road at Monmouth on Oct. 29 and at Siena on Nov. 2. The contest in Loudonville will be the second time in three years that Marist will end the regular season against the Saints. Marist tied with Monmouth, 2-2, in the 2015 regular season finale when the Hawks were ranked no. 22 in the country. With the draw, the Red Foxes earned a first round bye and the no. 3 seed in the 2015 MAAC Championships.

The first round of the 2016 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championships will be held Nov. 4 at the no. 3 and 4 seeds. The top two seeds will receive a bye and compete in the semifinals Nov. 11 at the no. 1 seed. The championship game is slated for Nov. 13. Click here to view Marist's 2016 regular season schedule.
