Men’s College Soccer Top 25: Sept. 1-7
The men’s college soccer season kicked off on Friday with a few surprising results as well as some favorites rolling through the weekend. With the first weekend of the season in the book, TopDrawerSoccer updates it weekly Top 25 men’s college team rankings.
UCLA(m) takes over the top spot following a two-win performance in North Carolina. The Bruins defeated North Carolina(m) 1-0 on Sunday following a 3-1 win over Wake Forest(m) on Friday.
Defending champions Notre Dame slip down to No. 2 after a 1-0-1 showing at the IU Classic. The Fighting Irish were held to a draw against the lively Hoyas of Georgetown(m). Notre Dame defeated No. 17 Marquette(m) (0-2) on Friday. Indiana (1-0-1), coincidentally, cracks the top 25 at No. 25 after a win over Marquette and a draw against Georgetown. Todd Yeagley’s squad is shaping up to contend in the Big Ten this season.
Washington(m) (1-0) moves up to No. 3 after a convincing win over Gonzaga(m) on Friday. The Huskies rolled to a 4-0 win in the season opener. Virginia(m) and the aforementioned Tar Heels round out the top five.
There were a number of new programs to the top 25 this week. Coastal Carolina(m), Creighton(m), the Hoosiers, George Mason(m), and Seattle(m) all crack the list for this week.
