THE LEAD: Senior Javoni Simms put the University of Hartford men's soccer team in front in the opening minutes of the match, but Siena battled back late as the two teams played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday afternoon at Siena Turf Field. Simms' marker, the Hawks' first of the young season, came on a throw in from Jeff Tryon in the seventh minute. Following more than 75 minutes without a goal from either side, Junior Rosero knotted up the score at 1-1 in the 83rd minute. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Hartford got on the scoreboard early, as Javoni Simms netted his team's first goal of the season in the seventh minute. The senior broke through early after gathering a long throw-in from junior Jeff Tryonand beating Siena's keeper, Gianni Carillo, with a low shot just inside of the near post.
• The Hawks played with a 1-0 advantage for most of the match, until Junior Rosero put one past Hartford's back line in the 83rd minute. Uros Antic was credited with the assist after his indirect kick deflected off a defender in the box, allowing Rosero to put the finishing touches on the ball.
• In the final 7:21 of regulation, Siena generated two corner kicks. Out of the latter, Matt O'Brien nearly netted the game-winner as he headed a shot into the crossbar. Neither team would find the back of the net, forcing overtime.
• The Hawks were forced to play with just nine field players three minutes into extra time as a result of a red card that was issued to midfielder Rohan Roye. Despite being a man-down, the visiting squad saw the best look in the first overtime, as senior Jhamie Hyde forced Carillo into action in the 96th minute.
• Hartford dominated the second overtime early as it had three looks within the first six minutes. Simms and sophomore Andre Morrison each put attempts high of the goal in the 103rd and 105th minutes, respectively, while Matt Barry's shot forced Carillo to make his third save of the afternoon. Down the final stretch, Siena manufactured a pair of looks, but neither chances were on target.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Siena held a 12-4 advantage in shots in the first half and a slight 8-7 edge in the second half
• Junior David MacKinnon made five saves in regulation, including four in the first half, before conceding the game-tying marker
• In overtime, the Hawks combined to outshot the Saints, 5-4

• Hartford's 0-0-2 start is its first since 1987.
• The Hawks have gone unbeaten in their last five meetings with Siena, going 3-0-2 during that stretch.
• In the all-time series against the Saints, Hartford shifts to 4-1-2.
