EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State got a pair of goals from midfielder Domenic Barone and four saves from keeper Avery Steinlage to post a 2-0 victory over Oakland in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The Spartans, now 12-7-1 overall, advance to Sunday's second-round game at No. 13-seed Butler.

Domenic Barone gave MSU the first goal of the day in the 48th minute. Barone was fouled in the box by a takedown; he lined up for the kick, waited for the keeper to commit to his left, and slid the kick into the bottom right corner of the net. It was Barone's team-best ninth goal of the season.

Barone doubled his team's lead with a goal in the 62nd minute. Brent Rosendall fed Barone the ball behind the midfield line; Barone streaked up the right side and eluded the covering defender inside the box. His shot found its mark into the side netting on the left side.

Steinlage made four saves on the afternoon to pick up his fifth shutout of the season and 21st overall.

On the afternoon, Oakland outshot MSU, 11-10, but the Spartans had a 9-5 advantage in corners. The Grizzlies and Spartans each had two yellow cards.

The Spartans' game in Indianapolis on Sunday against Butler will kick off at 1 p.m. This will be MSU's third consecutive appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans received first-round byes in each of the last two seasons.
