SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State men’s soccer team (5-3-2, 1-1-1) extended its shutout streak over visiting Creighton (4-3-2, 2-1-1) to 200 minutes this season with a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Plaster Field today.

Missouri State goalkeeper Alex Riggs recorded his second shutout of the season over Creighton with two saves in today’s match.  Riggs has not allowed a goal to the Bluejays during regular season play in three matches spanning 310 minutes.  The shutout is Riggs’ fifth of the season and 11th of his career, moving him into a tie for fourth place on the all-time Missouri State shutout list with current MLS goalkeeper Lance Parker.

Bears’ starting defenders Francesco Capone, Nick Dryden, Johannes Demarzi and Ryan Hennessy played a combined 435 minutes to help with the clean sheet.  Missouri State allowed 12 corners to Creighton, but were able to limit the Bluejays to just the two shots on goal.

The Missouri State offense was led by Demarzi’s two shots.  The Bears’ best chance came in the second overtime as Jordan Hoffman got clear of the Bluejays defense, but was kept wide and unable to get his shot by Creighton goalkeeper Brian Holt.  The Bluejays countered, but the Bears’ staunch defense was able to block two late shots by Creighton.

“It was a hard-fought battle by both teams,” said head coach Jon Leamy.  “We got a well-earned point against a tough team.”

Missouri State will now travel to Bradley for a 7:00 p.m. tilt with the Braves at Shea Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 10).  The Bears will return home next Wednesday, October 14, for the final non-conference match of the season against Oral Roberts at 4:00 p.m.
