MLS Academy alumni roundup: Sept. 3

With the return of the Division I men’s soccer season, it also marks the return to action for scores of MLS Academy alumni around the country.

While the best of the best from pro academies are all electing to turn pro, plenty out there are still playing college soccer.

Below is a team-by-team look at how MLS Academy alumni fared over the past week at the Division I level. 

Chicago Fire 

Senior GK Charlie Lyon started, played 90 minutes and made four saves in Marquette’s 2-1 loss against Notre Dame on Aug. 29. He also started, played 90 minutes and made five saves in a 1-0 loss against Indiana on Aug. 31.

Freshman D Grant Lillard started and played 90 minutes in Indiana's 1-1 draw against Georgetown on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win against Marquette on Aug. 31.

Sophomore M Louis Bennett II started and played 68 minutes in Marquette’s 2-1 loss against Notre Dame on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss against Indiana on Aug. 31.

Junior M Drew Conner started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against San Francisco on Aug. 29. He also started, played 77 minutes and had an assist in a 4-0 win over Xavier on Aug. 31.

Senior M Brady Wahl started and played 86 minutes in Marquette’s 2-1 loss against Notre Dame on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss against Indiana on Aug. 31.

Senior F Tyler Engel started, played 51 minutes and scored a goal in North Carolina’s 3-1 win over California on Aug. 29. He also started and played 59 minutes in a 1-0 loss against UCLA on Aug. 31.

Junior F Joey Calistri started, played 65 minutes and scored a goal in Northwestern’s 2-0 win against Quinnipiac on Aug. 29. He also started, played 58 minutes and scored two goals in a 3-0 win against Hofstra on Aug. 31.

Sophomore MF Marcus Epps started and played 76 minutes in South Florida’s 2-0 loss against Florida Gulf Coast(m) on Aug. 29.

Freshman F Jeffrey Farina came off the bench and played 26 minutes in Notre Dame’s 2-1 win over Marquette on Aug. 29. He also came off the bench and played 65 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Georgetown on Aug. 31.

Chivas USA

Junior D Brendan Hines-Ike started and played 90 minutes in Creighton’s 2-0 win over Stanford on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win against Santa Clara on Aug. 31.

Sophomore GK Jake McGuire started, played 90 minutes and made seven saves in Tulsa’s 1-0 loss against Saint Louis on Aug. 29. He also started, played 101 minutes and made four saves in a 2-1 win against SIUE on Aug. 31.

Freshman F Paul Salcedo came off the bench, played 24 minutes and had an assist in California’s 3-1 loss against North Carolina on Aug. 29. He also came off the bench, played 38 minutes and had an assist in a 4-1 win against Wake Forest on Aug. 31.

Colorado Rapids

Sophomore MF Ricardo Perez came off the bench and played 32 minutes in Creighton’s 2-0 win over Stanford on Aug. 29. He also came off the bench and played 30 minutes in a 1-0 win against Santa Clara on Aug. 31.

Sophomore GK Andrew Epstein started and played 90 minutes in Stanford’s 2-0 loss against Creighton on Aug. 29. He also started, played 95 minutes and made one save in a 2-1 win against Nebraska Omaha on Aug. 31.

Senior F James Rogers started and played 73 minutes in New Mexico’s 1-0 win against Akron on Aug. 29.

Columbus Crew

Junior D Andrew Souders started and played 90 minutes in Akron’s 1-0 loss against New Mexico on Aug. 29.

Sophomore D Rylee Woods started and played 90 minutes in Michigan’s 1-0 loss against Florida International on Aug. 29. He also started and played 14 minutes in a 3-0 win against SMU on Aug. 31.

Sophomore D Alex Crognale started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 1-0 loss against Louisville on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 3-2 win against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 1.

Freshman F Ahinga Selemani started and played 72 minutes in Michigan’s 1-0 loss against Florida International on Aug. 29. He also started, played 63 minutes and had an assist in a 3-0 win against SMU on Aug. 31.

Freshman M John Schuman came off the bench and played 18 minutes in Wake Forest’s 3-1 loss against UCLA on Aug. 29. He also came off the bench and played 14 minutes in a 4-1 loss against California on Aug. 31.

Junior M Connor Klekota started, played 62 minutes and scored a goal in Notre Dame’s 2-1 win over Marquette on Aug. 29. He also came off the bench and played 65 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Georgetown on Aug. 31.

D.C. United

Senior D Nat Eggleston started and played 94 minutes in Duke’s 1-1 draw against Loyola Marymount on Aug. 29. He also started and played 66 minutes in Duke’s 8-2 win against Stetson on Aug 31.

Sophomore D Michael Sauers came off the bench and played 34 minutes in Maryland’s 1-0 loss against Louisville on Aug. 29. He also started and played 63 minutes in a 3-2 win against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 1.

Senior M Mikias Eticha came off the bench, played 37 minutes, scored a goal and had an assist in Maryland’s 3-2 win against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 1.

Sophomore D Patrick Foss came off the bench and played 27 minutes in Virginia’s 1-0 win against Old Dominion on Aug. 29.

Sophomore D Suliaman Dainkeh started and played 87 minutes in Maryland’s 1-0 loss against Louisville on Aug. 29.

Senior M Tyler Rudy started and played 110 minutes in Georgetown’s 1-1 draw against Indiana on Aug. 29. He also started and played 104 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Notre Dame on Aug. 31.

Sophomore MF Ian Harkes started, played 80 minutes and scored a goal in Wake Forest’s 3-1 loss against UCLA on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 4-1 loss against California on Aug. 31.

Sophomore D Lars Eckenrode started and played 90 minutes in Michigan’s 1-0 loss against Florida International on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in Michigan’s 3-0 win against SMU on Aug. 31.

Sophomore F Bobby Edet started and played 52 minutes in Furman’s 2-1 loss against Seattle on Aug 29. He also started, played 66 minutes and scored two goals in a 3-0 win against UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 31.

Freshman D Kamar Mariott came off the bench, played 32 minutes and scored a goal in Florida Gulf Coast(m)’s 2-0 win over South Florida on Aug. 29.

Freshman D Jordan Cano started and played 90 minutes in SMU’s 1-0 loss against Michigan State on Aug. 29. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 3-0 loss against Michigan on Aug. 31.

Sophomore M Marco Ortiz started and played 84 minutes in Furman’s 2-1 loss against Seattle on Aug. 29. He also started and played 65 minutes in a 3-0 win against UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 31.

Senior D Uchenna Uzo started and played 86 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 3-2 win against Connecticut on Aug. 29. He also started and played 84 minutes in a 3-2 loss against Maryland on Sept. 1.

Freshman M Elochukwu Ozumba came off the bench and played 53 minutes in Northwestern’s 2-0 win against Quinnipiac on Aug. 29. He also came off the bench, played 45 minutes and had an assist in a 3-0 win against Hofstra on Aug. 31.

Freshman M Zach Jackson came off the bench and played 40 minutes in Tulsa’s 1-0 loss against Saint Louis on Aug. 29. He also came off the bench and played 47 minutes in a 2-1 win against SIUE on Aug. 31.

Freshman D Manny Padilla started and played 90 minutes in San Francisco’s 2-1 win against Wisconsin on Aug. 29. He also started and played 71 minutes in a 1-0 loss against UIC on Aug. 31.

Sophomore GK Josh McNeely started, played 90 minutes and made five saves in UC Santa Barbara’s 2-1 win against the College of Charleston on Aug. 29. He also started, played 90 minutes and made one save in a 3-0 loss against Furman on Aug. 31.

Freshman D Jeff Quezada started and played 38 minutes in UC Santa Barbara’s 2-1 win against the College of Charleston on Aug. 29. He also started and played 46 minutes in a 3-0 loss against Furman on Aug. 31.
