No. 10 Coastal Routs Campbell in Regular Season Finale

CONWAY - The 10th-ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to rout Campbell, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Field.

Coastal, the Big South regular season champions, scored five unanswered goals in a 25 minute span to extend its winning streak to 12 games. The Chanticleers finished the regular season 16-2 with an undefeated 9-0 mark in the Big South.

Campbell scored the first goal of the match in the 37th minute on a pass by Terry Keegan across the penalty box where Benn Iiames finished for his second goal of the year.

Coastal Carolina answered with a goal in the 45th minute after Leo Mukofsky crossed the ball to the top of the box where Pedro Ribeiro booted a 20-yard shot to the back of the net.

With the game knotted at one apiece, the nation's second leading scorer, Ashton Bennett netted his 20th goal of the year on a breakaway where he crossed up the keeper, finishing in the left side of the net.

Bennett followed eight minutes later in the 56th minute when Ribeiro set him up at the left post where he one touched the ball in for his 21st goal of the season. Bennett returned the favor for Ribeiro in the 67th minute after Bennett's shot was blocked, Ribeiro biked in his eighth goal of the year to put the Chanticleers up 4-1 over the Camels. 

Freshman Ricky Garbanzo scored the final goal of the afternoon on a cross from TeeJay East where he netted it in the 70th minute for a 5-1 Coastal victory.

The Chanticleers were caught offsides three times on the day, two of which erased scores by Robby Joe Daniels and Bennett.

Coastal outshot Campbell 24-7 on the afternoon while attempting seven corners compared to Campbell's three.

Saturday marked the final regular season home game for four Coastal Carolina seniors Jacob Downey, Cyprian Hedrick, Luis Faz and Scott Angevine. Prior to the contest, the players were honored for the accomplishments and contributions to the Coastal Carolina men's soccer program.

Coastal Carolina returns to the pitch on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. in Boiling Springs, N.C., for the first round of the Big South Tournament. The Chanticleers are the #1 seed in the tournament and will face the yet to be determined eighth seed in the opening round.
