AUSTIN, Texas – Following a two-hour lightning delay during Friday's event opener between Stephen F. Austin and Nevada, the No. 22 Arkansas women’s soccer team (2-0-1) battled Texas (1-0-2) to a 0-0 (2OT) draw in front of 1,359 fans at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The Razorbacks, who dominated play in the second half and both overtime periods, outshot the Longhorns 15-8 and 7-4 in shots on goal, while UT managed a 7-3 advantage on corners. Goalkeeper Cameron Carter earned her eighth career shutout and registered four saves in 110 minutes between the pipes. Tyler Allen and Claire Kelley led the Arkansas offense, registering three shots and two shots on goal each.

Originally scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. CT, the Longhorns and Razorbacks finally took the pitch at 8:57 p.m. Arkansas registered the first shot of the match just 6:40 into the contest. Claire Kelley found some space and took a solid strike but it was saved by Texas goalkeeper Abby Smith. The teams would battle over the next 35+ minutes of action until the Longhorns were able to register just the second shot on goal in the half. With 12 second remaining in the opening period, Sharis Lachappelle blasted a shot that was saved by Carter right before the intermission.

At the half, with the score tied at 0-0, Texas led in shots 5-3 and corner kicks 5-2, while the teams were tied 1-1 in shots on goal.

The second half was a totally different story for the Razorbacks, as they dominated play and managed seven total shots and four shots on goal in the period. Sarah Price, Alexandra Fischer, Tyler Allen and Claire Kelley each had good chances to put the ball in the back of the net in regulation, but were unable to finish and the match went into overtime.

In the first OT the Razorbacks recorded the only two shots of the period, with the best chance coming from an Ashleigh Ellenwood shot that went wide.

Arkansas nearly ended things with 7:38 remaining in the second OT as a header by Kelley hit off the crossbar and was cleared away.

With about three minutes left in the contest Texas’ Abby Smith, who has already scored two goals from the keeper position in her Longhorn career, blasted a free kick on goal, but Carter was there for the save and preserved the scoreless deadlock.

The Razorbacks return to action on Sun., Aug. 31, when they battle the Lady Jacks of Stephen F. Austin at 11 a.m. at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. SFA defeated Nevada 3-0 in game one on Friday night to improve to 2-1-0 on the young season.
