ODU Travels To UNCW

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs (7-1-2/1-1-2) hit the road for a Saturday night match at UNC Wilmington (5-7-1/2-3). Game time is 7 p.m.

The Monarchs rank 12th by College Soccer News, 14th by NSCAA/Coaches and Soccer Times and 15th by Soccer America.

ODU has played to two straight 0-0 ties after beating George Mason on the Fox Soccer Channel, 3-2 on Sept. 28.

Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) leads the Monarchs in scoring with eight goals, four assists for 20 total points, followed by Jordan LeBlanc (Haverford, PA.) with five goals, three assists for 13 and senior co-captain Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA.) with four goals and four assists for 12 points.

Five Monarchs have scored atleast two goals thus far this season, and assisted on atleast three goals.

Senior goalkeeper Victor Francoz (Fleurieu Sur Saone, France) has been in on five of the Monarchs shutouts and has a 0.96 goals against average with 42 saves.

Monarchs head coach Alan Dawson is 307-126-39 in his 25th overall season as a collegiate head coach. He is 178-96-29 in his 16th season at ODU.

THE SERIES: ODU leads, 16-6-1, having beaten the Seahawks two straight, 1-0 in 2010 and 3-2 last year. In 2009 UNCW defeated the Monarchs 1-0 in the CAA tournament after the two tied 0-0 during the regular season.

The Seahawks are coached by former MLS goalkeeper Aidan Heaney, now in his 12th season. Sophomore midfielder Jamie Dell leads the Seahawks in scoring with four goals, follwed by freshman forward Nathaniel Goodwin,freshman Colin Bonner and sophomore midfielder Mateo Cardona with three goals each. Senior midfielder Etienne Boulanger and junior Michael Parrish both lead UNCW in assists with three each.

 

 

After winning three straight, the Seahawks have lost their last two CAA matches, 2-0 at Drexel and 2-1 in overtime to JMU. They beat William and mary 3-0 in Williamsburg, and Duke, 2-1.
