Every coach has their reasons.

For some, it may have been one defining moment; for others, a lifelong affirmation.

Coaching is rooted in passion, and accompanied by growth; and everyone who coaches has a story explaining why they do what they do.

The NSCAA has thousands of them.

“I love helping players find success through soccer,” explained University of Richmond women’s soccer coach Peter Albright, one of the NSCAA’s more than 30,000 members.

“The challenge for me, and for many coaches, is to keep reinventing myself and stay relevant.”

And that’s where the NSCAA comes in.

As the largest coaching organization in the world, the NSCAA is taking all those poignant stories of coaching inspiration and insight and adding more than a touch of education.

Coaching education is a primary mission of the association and is accomplished through year-long courses and seminars for instructors of all levels – not to mention the annual NSCAA Convention, a grand event that meshes together some of the most notable product manufacturers and coaching minds in the world.

But more than just a curriculum, the NSCAA is a soccer community like none other. It’s only through the galvanizing membership that coaches get the opportunity to learn from one another, sharing philosophies, advice and friendship.

“The NSCAA has meant a lot to me personally,” said Real Colorado Executive Director of Coaching Lorne Donaldson, also a longtime member.

“It’s really the only group that brings together so many different people from all backgrounds – women, black coaches, Latino .... it’s a very diverse group, and that’s something you wouldn’t see before the NSCAA.”

Donaldson said he’s gained invaluable knowledge from attending sessions and sharing ideas with his peers over the years.

Albright, who has been a member for 30 years, estimates that he’s probably seen hundreds of NSCAA coaching sessions and still finds himself enlightened with each one.

“Sometimes as coaches we can get stale and comfortable using things over and over again that work,” he said. “The sessions and the membership is just a great resource. Anything I can use to help my players reach success, I’m for it.”

After all, that’s the reason Albright coaches.
