Tulsa Falls to #22 Saint Louis, 1-0 (2OT)
The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 double-overtime decision to 22nd-ranked Saint Louis on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 0-1 on the season, while SLU moved to 1-0 overall.
“I thought our performance was really good for much of the game,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “We started off pretty well. We were a bit unlucky to hit the cross bar in the first half and created a number of good chances. I am just disappointed for the players. They did everything they needed to do to win, but one long ball late in the game caught us. If we continue to play and grow from here we’ll find a way to win these types of games.”
The teams battled for 101:03 when Vince Cicciarelli took the ball up the middle of the field, went one-on-one with the keeper and punched it into the lower right side from 12 yards out.
Tulsa had a 15-5 lead in shots, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, while the Billikens had an 8-3 lead in corner kicks.
Geoffrey Dee, Miguel Velasquez and Ray Saari all had a team-best three shots, while Juan Sanchez and Khalil Kirksey both had two attempts. Jake McGuire logged all 101:03 in goal, picked up three saves and allowed the one score.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, August 30 against Sacramento State. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
