Tulsa Falls to CSUN in Season Opener, 2-1

August 26, 2016

The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to CSUN in the season opener on Friday night in Northridge, Calif.  TU fell to 0-1 on the season, while the Matadors moved to 1-0 overall.

“We made two mistakes and we got punished for it,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  “We played really well for the other 89 minutes.  The guys did everything we asked and we had good individual performances.  Overall it was a good team performance too, but we have to learn we can’t make those mistakes.”

Papi Diouf put CSUN on the board with just eight seconds ticked off the clock off a combination from Juan Samayoa and Emmanuel Usen, Jr.

The Golden Hurricane’s Juan Sanchez evened the score in the 60th minute as drilled in a pass from Quinton Duncan, but Nicholas Grinde put the Matadors up once again in the 83rd minute for the final score.

Tulsa had a 19-6 lead in shots, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-0 lead in corner kicks.

Sanchez had five of the Hurricane’s shots, while Ray Saari and Rollie Rocha each added three attempts.  Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes in goal.

Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, August 31st against UMKC.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
