BALTIMORE- The UMBC men’s soccer team won its fifth straight match, defeating Binghamton, 3-0, in the regular season finale played at Retreiver Soccer Park.

 

UMBC (10-4-4, 4-2-1) captured the second seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming America East Conference Tournament and host the winner of No. 6 Binghamton (6-10-0, 2-5-0) at No. 3 Stony Brook on Wed., Nov. 7.

 

Junior forward Kadeem Dacres (Rosedale, N.Y./Mercer County CC), sophomore midfielder Mamadou Kansaye (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and junior forward Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) were the goal scorers for the Retrievers.

 

UMBC has scored 15 goals in its last three home games and Caringi has recorded eight of those goals.

 

Dacres scored his fourth goal of the season and it turned out to be the game-winning score in the 20^th minute of play. Kansaye led midfielder Milo Kapor (Toronto, Ont./Emily Carr down the center of the field and the senior sent a perfect pass through a pair of Bearcat defenders to Dacres. The first-year Retreiver picked up the pass from 20 yards out and after several touches lined a shot which hit the inside of the far right post and settled in the goal to give the hosts the early advantage.

 

The Retrievers outshot Binghamton, 13-4, in the first half and scored two early second half goals to gain a comfortable margin. In the 53^rd minute, Kapor struck a hard shot from the edge of the box which Bearcat netminder Stefano Frantelizzi saved, but Kansaye pounced on the rebound and put it under the crossbar from close range for his first goal in a UMBC jersey.

 

Caringi tallied his 14^th goal of the season and tenth in his last six games in typical style in the 65^th minute. Deep on the right wing, Dacres dropped a pass off to sophomore Spencer Williams (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill). The fullback low serve found Caringi at the far post and the America East’s leading scorer headed it past Frantelizzi.

 

UMBC racked up 21 shots, outshooting the guests, 21-7. Junior netminder Phil Saunuders (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) was called upon to make four saves in his sixth shutout of the season. Frantelizzi recorded six saves for Binghamton.

 

The winning streak is UMBC’s longest since opening the 2009 campaign with nine consecutive victories. They are 6-1-3 at home this season.
