TAMPA, SEPT. 18, 2014 – The Bulls offense broke out in a big way on Thursday night as three different players scored for USF in a 3-1 win over Brown in front of 722 fans at Corbett Stadium.

Edwin Moalosi got the Bulls off to a fast start with his first goal of the season in the 15^th minute. The senior midfielder made a perfect turn in the box and shot quickly, beating Brown goalkeeper Mitch Kupstas to his right. It was the quickest goal the Bulls have scored this season and set the tone early for an active USF attack.

The Bulls took a 1-0 lead into the half thanks to Moalosi’s goal that was set up by senior defender Wesley Charpie, who had two assists on the night. Moalosi also led the Bulls with five shots for the game.

USF (3-2) wasted no time adding to its lead in the second half, scoring just 53 seconds in to double the lead. Matthew O’Neal tallied his first goal of the season with a beautiful finish in the box after a great delivery on a free kick by Lucas Baldin.

Despite holding a two-goal lead, the Bulls kept the pressure on and added a third goal in the 75^th minute to take a commanding lead. Eduardo Maceira fired home a rebound from 10 yards out after Kupstas made the initial save on a shot by Charpie.

“In training the focus is not on scoring goals, the focus is on creating chances and I think we created a number of chances where we could have had six or seven (goals) tonight,” head coach George Kiefer said.

In total, five different USF players recorded a point on the night as the team registered their highest scoring output of the season.

“All week in practice we’ve been working hard and it paid off today and showed,” Charpie said. “It was everyone working together, guys getting in the box and fighting to put it in the net and that’s what happened tonight.”

Brown (2-3) added a late goal in the 76^th minute when Tyler Long headed home a cross from James Myall, but it was too little too late for the Bears.

The Bulls finished the game with a 13-10 shot advantage and goalkeeper Spasoje Stefanovic made four saves. USF also got the chance to sub in some players that don’t normally see a lot of action and coach Kiefer was pleased with their efforts.

“They made good decisions late in the game to manage the last four or five minutes which is key to winning soccer games.”

A huge game looms on Sunday as No. 8 Washington visits Corbett Stadium at 7:30 p.m. USF will look to stay undefeated at home and pick up its first win over a ranked opponent this season.
