Warhawks Finish WIAC 8-0

October 25, 2014

Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) notched her second hat trick of the season and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team finished 8-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the third straight year with an 8-0 win over UW-Superior Saturday in Superior. The Warhawks (15-2), ranked 13th in the country, have won 13 in a row this season, a school record, and 29 consecutive regular season WIAC matches. UW-Whitewater claims the WIAC title outright with the perfect record, thus earning the number one seed, a first round bye, and the right to host in the WIAC tournament.

UW-W wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) struck first for the Warhawks, scoring on a pass from senior Kaitlyn Fritsch (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) in the sixth minute. Six minutes later Jordan Jackson (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) scored her second goal of the season on a ball from Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek).

Reid scored the first of her three goals in the 19th minute on a pass from teammate Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls). She tallied her second score in the 25th minute off of a pass from Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb).

Alexandrea Swarthout (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) made it 5-0 scoring an unassisted goal just before halftime.

Reid finished off the hat trick less than two minutes into the second half, this time scoring on a pass from senior captain Kelsey Beld (Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial). The sophomore forward has now recorded 25 career goals, cracking the top ten of the UW-Whitewater record book. Reid also recorded a hat trick back on October 8 scoring all three of the Warhawks' goals in a come-from-behind win over North Park.

Less than a minute after Reid made it 6-0, Pottle notched her second goal of the match knocking in a pass from Jackson. Five minutes later Woodson recorded her second assist of the game when she found Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) to make it 8-0. Woodson, a junior midfielder, now has 22 career assists, third all-time in school history.

Jordan Myers (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) earned the win and split the shutout with teammate Alison Halweg (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie).  Myers recorded one save, Halweg three.

The Warhawks totaled 28 shots in the game, the most in one game this season, including 17 on goal. The eight UW-Whitewater goals is the most in a game since September 18, 2011 when the Warhawks defeated Ripon 10-1.

The Warhawks will wrap-up the regular season on Wednesday, October 29 with a home match against Marian University beginning at 7 pm.
