The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team is tied for first in the Mountain West after Sunday’s 2-0 victory at San Jose State in Spartan Stadium. The Cowgirls (9-6-1, 7-1-0 MW) got goals from freshman forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes and senior defender Kasey Curtis in the second and 88^th minutes, respectively, to notch their fifth-straight victory, just one shy of the school record.

“It was a hard fought battle,” UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “I give both teams a lot of credit but the fight our girls had through the entire game made me very proud. Winning two matches on the road is tough and just I was proud of the effort and resiliency of the team.”

Curtis scored UW’s first goal off a penalty kick in the second minute of the game after a foul in the Spartan’s box. She has six goals on the season. Lomsnes iced the game in the 88^th minute when she found an empty net for her team-high ninth goal of the season.

Despite being outshot by the Spartans, 21-13, the Cowgirls were able to capitalize on their opportunities for the match. Lomsnes and Curtis led the offense, each notching a goal and combine for three shots. Freshman forward Candace Sciberras followed with two shots and a shot on goal. Wyoming goalkeepers Georgia Rowntree and Alex Boehm earn their fourth combine shutout with four saves each on the season.

The Cowgirls return to the road on Friday at No. 21 San Diego State at 8 p.m. MT and Sunday at New Mexico at 1 p.m.
