UC Irvine men fall to St. Mary's (CA)

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 16 UC Irvine men’s soccer team (4-2) lost 2-1 to Saint Mary’s in double overtime Friday night in non-conference play at Anteater Stadium.

Junior Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS) found freshman Jonathan Prieto (La Habra HS) inside the box where he put it away to give UCI a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute. Dylan Leslie crossed the ball to the left side of the box where he found Erik Rivas to tie the match at 1-1 in the 72nd minute. In the second overtime period, Ben Sperber had a breakaway down the left side of the field and waited for Dylan Leslie, who was trailing down the middle of the field, and passed it to the top of the box where Leslie snuck the ball past the keeper for the game-winner at 107:09.

Sophomore keeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) had three saves for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Doug Herrick had three saves for the Gaels.

The ‘Eaters host Sacramento State Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
